Investing in South African books allows our publishing industry to flourish and supports local authors. 🇿🇦
Sihle-isipho @officialceehl and I went to the same high school. The venn diagram of our intersecting lives features ‘Passionate South African Children’s Book Author’ and ‘Alumni of Kingsridge High School for Girls eQonce’.
We received an excellent education at our school. Our access to books a given. The ease with which we reminisced on the library and the librarians we fondly remember, had me consider deeply, the impact.
I understand how an excellent education and access to the world of books has opened doors for me and continues to.
Therefore, it’s highly rewarding to collaborate in holding a door open for others.
It’s why @isuzusa invitation to join their Rally to Read celebrations on the 6th of May excited me so!
Rally to Read is a powerful and sustainable reading programme in under resourced schools that Isuzu Motors South Africa is a proud partner of.
The celebratory event itself was postponed due to a flood warning in Gqeberha; the postponement however offered an opportunity to spend time with the team at Isuzu SA — to engage with the heart of this programme and the drive of the stakeholders involved.
In exchanging stories we gave context to what motivates us — and the change we desire to see in our society.
Change starts with identifying an opportunity to seed back into the growth and prosperity of a community.
Collaboration creates ripple effect.
I wonder what stories will come from the children whose reading and learning capacity has soared as a result of the support from this 3 year programme.
How access to the world of books has changed THEIR world.
Will there be another Sihle-Isipho and Refiloe with an intersecting venn diagram?
The possibilities are endless.
That’s what exposure to a reading programme like this offers its beneficiaries.

"Wir sind eins" ist ein Bilderbuch aus Südafrika, geschrieben von @refiloemoahloli und illustriert von @zinelda McDonald. Die Entdeckung habe nicht ich gemacht, sondern unsre allerliebste Minitta Kandlbauer hat mir dieses Buch ans Herz gelegt und uns im Verlag alle überzeugt. Ein wunderbares und super liebes Buch über die Ubuntu-Philosophie, die besagt: Alles ist miteinander verbunden. Wenn es anderen gut geht, geht es auch mir gut. Wenn wir Gemeinschaft leben, dann geht es uns allen gut. Ein Buch, das wir in Zeiten wie diesen ganz dringend brauchen und das ich hier allen ans Herz legen möchte! 💗
Übersetzt hat es die wunderbare @africandiva__ ,das Layout und Cover hat natürlich @minitta_photography gemacht, und gemeinsam mit ihrer Schwester Melanie folgendes zum Buch gesagt:
Wenn wir Kindern nur ein Buch vorlesen dürften, dann wäre es "Wir sind eins". Wenn wenn wir Ubuntu leben, geht es uns allen gut.
