Today marks the official release of Shards, the eagerly anticipated recording by pianist Jason Moran, electronic musician BlankFor. ms, and drummer Marcus Gilmore. The albumâs conceptual framework centers on fragmentation and reconstruction. As the liner notes observe, âthe piano and drums fold into each other and themselves, looping back and forth between sound, data, past, futureâinformation moving at the lightning speed of musiciansâ minds.â Each musical gesture by these musicians leaves a mark in three virtual dimensions, shaping an infinite number of images as the record plays.
Following the critical reception of Refract, which The New York Times praised for its work âacross medium and style, with composed elements and prepared loops,â Shards represents a maturation of the groupâs collaborative language. The spectrum of ideas is broad. Meditative passages give way to exploratory abstraction, and angular rhythms coexist with lyrical melody.
Throughout, the production quality maintains Red Hook Recordsâ meticulous attention to sonic detail, presenting the trioâs intricate interplay with remarkable clarity and presence.
Shards is now available on 180g translucent LP / CD / Digital formats. Link in bio đ

Today marks the official release of âHanamichi - The Final Studio Recording Vol. IIâ by the late Masabumi Kikuchi. This album carries special significance, as 2025 marks ten years since Kikuchiâs passing, and this album stands as his final recorded contribution in a studio setting.
âThe music that came out of this session was somewhat the result of a minor miracle. Masabumi was in constant physical pain and often needed strong medication. The session itself took place in what could be described as a blurred stateâbetween realms of dream and reality. When Masabumi sat down at the piano, all his pain seemed to vanish; his body becoming a vessel through which music transformed into energy. Then, during breaks, he would medicate and sleep for a few hours, only to reawaken and continue his magic at the piano,â explains producer Sun Chung
This final studio document embodies the culmination of Kikuchiâs artistic philosophy. His melodies unfold with sublime clarity and restraint, yet retain a searching, exploratory qualityâas though he were discovering each note for the first time. His improvisations, expansive and unguarded, reveal an artist able to find profound meaning within abstraction, moving seamlessly from the most delicate whispers to declarations of astonishing power.
âI donât have any technique,â Kikuchi once told The New York Times. And yet, as these recordings demonstrate, he had developed something far more essential: his own musical language. His highly idiosyncratic approachâmarked by long silences, startling contrasts, and a touch that could be at once fragile and fierceâremains unmistakable.
Hanamichi â The Final Studio Recording Vol. II invites listeners into an intimate and transformative sound world, offering moments of deep reflection and connection to the boundless possibilities of musical creation.

Today we announce the official worldwide release of âSolace of the Mindâ the new solo album by legendary pianist, organist, and vocalist Amina Claudine Myers. The album is the first under her own name in nearly a decade â and it arrives not only as a return, but also as a reaffirmation of her musical powers.
In a world of many fractures, Myers offers a space of reflection and healing. Across the albumâs ten movements, she crafts an interior world where melody and memory intertwine. Her music is at once commanding and tender, steeped in spiritual tradition yet fiercely contemporary.
The album has already begun to resonate deeply with critics and listeners alike. The Wire describes the album as âconjuring whole worlds from just a few perfectly chosen notes,â Gilles Peterson remarks in Worldwide FM âabsolutely brilliant.â
âSolace of the Mindâ is an invitation: to listen more closely, to sit in meditation, to find stillness in sound.
The album is now available on CD and Digital formats.
LP release date is set for July 11th.
