Chinary Ung's music is wild, unruly. We shout, sing, play. He calls his music Futuristic Folk Music and has spent decades preserving and engaging with the music of Khmer culture since so much was lost during the Khmer Rouge.
We are honored to perform at Chinary's Composer Portrait Concert at @millertheatreatcu on March 26. The program will include Spiral X which was written for Del Sol back in 2007, String Trio from his student days at @columbia , Khse Buon for solo cello performed by our very own amazing @redendpin , and a world premiere of Spiral XVI "Preah Vihear."
Here's a preview of a very short snippet of the new work. Hear us sing and shout in Pali, Khmer, and fantastical made up languages.

We had an incredible time learning and performing music by faculty and student composers from @ucberkeleymusic and @ucscmusic this past week. Seven students and four faculty wrote new original music for gayageum and string quartet, and we were honored to work with gayageum players from the National Gugak Center.
