💪The Power of Community
Recently I was asked what people can do to support individuals living with disabilities, and I believe the answer is a simple one…
Be the person who says “why not” and “how can we make this happen”.
Be the person who refuses to place a glass ceiling on top of someone in the aftermath of a life-changing event.
Be the person who is willing to adapt, improvise, and overcome obstacles each step of the way.
Because, it’s when we come together, that the true power of community can have an impact.
It’s when we come together that ‘impossible’ becomes ‘possible’.
It’s not disability which defines someone’s potential - it’s the opportunities, the support network, their environment.
The power of community gives us the ability to exist beyond labels and diagnosis.

If you’d asked me to imagine a life without the ability to climb mountains, to run, or to walk, I’d probably have said I’d rather be dead. And then, at a rockface in North Wales, that sentiment was brought to life. The fall that day left me instantly and permanently paralysed from the chest down. My life saved by the actions of my bestfriend.
What followed was a long, uphill battle to overcome adversity, to find meaning in chaos, and to find new purpose.
Thankfully, I had a network of individuals around me who gave me no choice but to adapt and evolve.
It is only because of their support that I have gone on to become an adventurer and expedition leader despite my Spinal Cord Injury. Only because of their support have I found a new identity and a life I am so grateful and proud to be living.
And that is exactly why I am launching the Redefining Impossible Foundation, a charity with a mission to support individuals in the aftermath of life-changing injury/trauma – using the power of adventure and community to help them find meaning, purpose, and possibility in their new lives.
The Redefining Impossible Foundation launches this summer, and its first adventure will be revealed soon!

♿️Today is Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) Awareness Day.
Don’t get me wrong - living with a SCI isn’t always easy: the inability to walk or run, neuropathic pain, managing your bladder and bowels without being able to control either, and the impact all of this can have on your mental health. But beneath those challenges is a life I wouldn’t change for the world - the kind of life I always aspired to live: one full of adventure, friendship, love, and, above all, a purpose greater than self.
I’m often asked what people can do to better support individuals living with a SCI (in the UK, someone sustains a spinal cord injury every two hours). For me, the answer is relatively simple: empower, empower, empower. Yes, spinal cord injury comes with physical limitations, but together, “impossible” is there to be challenged.

🎉We are excited to announce one of the Foundation’s first adaptive adventures, where we will be taking five individuals who have recently experienced life-changing trauma on a cycling expedition along the beautiful Danube River.
Starting in Passau, Germany, and finishing 330km later in the historic city of Vienna, Austria, this promises to be an unforgettable journey.
Thanks to our partners, Jimmy’s and P&G, we are now looking for our first five beneficiaries to join us on this epic adventure.
If you, or someone you know, would be interested in taking part, drop us a DM to find out more.

No advantage.
No shortcut.
Just discipline.
Perseverance.
Failure.

And a good sense of humour.
These are the tools you need.

🇳🇴One of the most impressive places I’ve travelled has to be Norway’s expansive network of fjords - including these images from a recent expedition to the Sognefjord and Naerøyfjord, situated 5 hours north of Oslo. If anyone is thinking of visiting, I’d definitely recommend finding a local tour provider and exploring the fjords by water - I guarantee you won’t paddle anywhere more breathtaking 👌

Some of the hardest battles we face aren’t always visible. After experiencing trauma or adversity, hope doesn’t arrive overnight. In the aftermath of my Spinal Cord Injury, I worked with a leading Clinical Psychologist and extensively studied trauma-centred Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) - I was keen to understand how hope and resilience can be found when it feels like the weight of the world is against us.
I’ve written an article about the ‘inner battle’ on my website - LINK IN BIO

❄️On Antarctica’s vast polar plateau, as the temperature dropped below -35°C, the ice beneath my sit-ski felt more like sandpaper than snow - every push became one of the hardest physical and psychological tests I’ve faced on an expedition. But what it reminded me is this: We don’t achieve ambitious goals in one leap. We get there one push, one step at a time.
And in those moments of self-doubt, when the conditions feel at their worst, we come back to our purpose - to make a difference, to inspire others, to pursue something that others might believe is impossible.
So the next time you find yourself facing the hardship of life’s own polar plateau, don’t look too far ahead. Just focus on the next push. The next step.

🗻Well, I never thought I’d be back here - at the top of the Wrekin, one of Shropshire’s iconic landscapes. Honestly, there were certain places I accepted should be left in the past - a fond memory growing more distant with the passage of time. That’s at least until I got a Bowhead RX handcycle. Suddenly, I’m pushing towards the summit again - working hard and digging deep like I always used to when running to the summit. It’s not just the power of the right equipment, but the power of the outdoor community and the support of friends (credit to Matt White) who bring the past into the present 🙏

🗻This is going to be epic…
This summer, I’m taking on the 🏴Traws-Eryri (Trans-Snowdonia) route – a 200km adventure across the heart of Snowdonia - aiming to become the first person to complete it using a handcycle. For most, it’s a serious challenge. For someone with a Spinal Cord Injury (SCI), it’s something entirely different. But that’s the point. Whether it’s dragging a sit-ski to Antarctica’s polar plateau or taking on the mountains of North Wales, this journey is a continuation of my commitment to testing the boundaries of what’s possible.
Sometimes, you don’t need to go to the ends of the Earth to redefine impossible. Sometimes, it’s right on your doorstep.
@sabrinaschoenmaker let’s do this 💪
