Yunnan coffee is rapidly gaining traction on the UK specialty scene, celebrated for its unique, bright, and fruity flavour profiles often featuring notes of red apple and berries. These complex flavour profiles are right up my street, so I’m always open for trying…! . I am really impressed with these latest Lunar New Year offerings on the coffee scene, so was super excited to get my hands on @origincoffeeroasters most recent Banka beans. A small London roastery that I was unfamiliar with boasts as having one of the largest selections of Chinese micro-lots in the UK, so I had to give @killbean.roaster a try too. We took a stroll back in our old hood yesterday on what turned out to be one of the wettest days ever. a w a y ... ...🧊☀️🇮🇹 . . . Nothing beats the UK winter blues as much as hopping on a plane for a couple hours and taking a long weekend in Italy…! . We flew from Bristol to Verona early morning last Saturday and had a couple days there which was bliss, then on Monday we jumped on a train for an hour or so and nipped over to Venice for a full day, and flying straight back to Bristol from there. Just seeing some blue skies and sunshine makes all the difference when we are constantly bombarded with grey damp days in the UK. It was dry and about 2 degrees C. We just layered up - I’m a huge fan of the #UniqloHeatTech tops that I’ve been living in when outdoors. I layer it with a cosy wool knit jumper and light fleece, a large pair of cosy tights with wool socks under my loose denim jeans and a wool knit beanie. I also invested in my first pair of proper walking boots, which I’d bought for walking in the mountains in Japan, so thought I’d road test them for my city break, and they did not disappoint! These ‘Sk8-Hi GORE-TEX Insulated Shoes’ were super comfy and cosy for these colder days. They’re Gortex too but I’m yet to test their dryness factor. They didn’t even rub considering they were my only shoes for the entire holiday. I’d recommend sizing up. I am a 4 but got a 4.5 and they were perfect even with tights and socks on. . We love taking a European short trip this time of year not only for a bit of winter freshness but it’s also not too busy with tourists and so feels so much more relaxed. . We LOVE Italy and have been sooo many times, the cuisine, the pace of life, the people, the weather and diversity as a country is wonderful and a reason why we will never be bored of coming here. . f o o d ... ...🍜🥬 . . . It’s been really great getting back into my groove of cooking and the want to eat well after weeks of not having the time or inclination at the end of 2025. . I may not look it but I am 100% of SE Asian heritage with both my parents being Chinese Malaysian, and I cannot deny that my favourite food is anything from this part of the world too. I am so grateful and humbled to have been born and raised here in the UK whilst eating my parents home cooking - it was pretty much traditional Chinese dinners everyday. Our whole family would always sit together at the dining table to enjoy our evening meal as soon as my dad stepped in from work. Although I was never allowed to help my mum in the kitchen (I still am not 😆), I loved food so much that when I moved away from home I had to teach myself. Having the fortune to also to travel to so many countries all over the world has only made my hunger for food and knowledge of cooking even stronger. . It surprises me that what was once looked at by westerners as greasy Asian fried food, has now had a complete turnaround and is now being fully embraced, and even seen as healthy. Perhaps we can thank our immigrant parents for keeping some of our culture alive, but also the second generation, like myself, who choose to not let who we are be downplayed or forgotten. We are lucky enough to live in such a rich multicultural society, those differences should be embraced. We have so much to learn and enjoy from one another - let’s do it with kindness and interest and a willingness to learn 🙏🏼 . #RedBirdEats #NoodleSoup #NoToHate #LoveFood #ChineseFood

It’s just as well because I could easily open a shop with the amount of beans I currently have overflowing my shelves from my favourite roasters 😆 . This one I’ve been holding out on opening, and today’s the day. The artwork itself making this coffee more so appealing as I’m a sucker for great packaging! . This Strawberry Co-Ferment is super exciting and you should have been here to smell the contents when I unlocked that bag - the aromatics giving candied strawberry shoelaces 🍓🍋💥 It’s suggested using the V60 method, but I love my flat whites so had to give it a go, sorry. Real smooth fruity deep earthy vibes going on in the cup. Mr Red Bird was sniffing the room when he came in, noticing something was afoot 😄 .
