Today in #memademay, these textured linen-cotton gingham #mm101trousers (without drawstring), with a really special fabric from @iseefabric . Also a me made top, a heavily modified #rtshans in pink handwoven lightweight cotton twill. Comfy for kid party prep and finishing semester grading.
I quite liked my school drop off choices today, which included this me made sweatshirt top in midweight french terry from @iseefabric
Yes, it's still that cold in New York that I'm wearing a sweatshirt under a Babaa cardigan to walk my child a mile uphill to school. #memademay
A little late for #memademay today. Same #craftstudiotee from yesterday with my brown denim #kitepants -- a full @matchymatchysewingclub outfit, whoops! Been a long day of plumbing disasters and I finally got dressed around 3pm after cleaning, cleaning, and cleaning again.
Today in #memademay , this delightful #craftstudiotee. Another simple yet delightful @matchymatchysewingclub pattern! I love that I can make one of their patterns in a few minutes here and there while parenting and have something new for the week. This is a 100% cotton textured gauze from @fluidplusdrape which gives the very simple pattern a lot of extra interest!
She doooone!! Here's today's #memademay entry, this lined, check Indian handwoven cotton v-neck summer dress. I started with an #ashtontop, went up a size, added a v-neck, widened the sleeves a touch, lifted the armholes an inch, and cropped it even more, then added a skirt, pockets, and lined the whole thing in a very lightweight white cotton. I kept the hot pink selvedge on the skirt on principle.
It was all very intuitive, trying it on and adjusting while it was on my body every step. Tried on as though it's summer, even though it's 50 and raining this afternoon.
I love a simple dress like this but it's SO hard to find anything that fits my proportions, always has been. The bodice on this is 15" shoulder to waist and it hits at my true waist!
Ok ok here's a bonus for #memademay today. A repeat from last weekend, me made shirt, but twee shoes so I don't feel like a farmer. Perfect to see Rhiannon Giddens at Carnegie Hall tonight, I think.
Today in #memademay it's my plaid dress project! I cut it yesterday and assembled the bodice this morning. I just love this pattern! Indian handwoven cotton with plain handwoven cotton lining on the bodice. Can't wait to finish it over the weekend.
Feeling red today I guess?? #allwellboxtop with peplum in 9oz organic cotton jersey. I like how the top came out oversized in the jersey. Worn with not me made but women designed vest @jaggery_london and knit pants @nonnalietta .
When I'm not wearing things I made, these days I'm usually wearing clothes designed by other middle aged women/moms, like the rest of my outfit. They know what's up. I can move, nap, work, and care for my kid in the same clothes. Everything, even blackberry hand prints, washes out of high quality natural fibers. Highly likely I keep this toddleresque ensemble on for design crits this evening.
I'm finally cutting the plaid dress before I go to campus, too... I don't know why but I am just obsessed with this woven pattern!!!
Another self drafted skirt for #memademay today. I figured out how to draft my own pockets for this one 😅
It was hard to figure out what to make with this black fabric. It's a fairly lightweight handwoven cotton twill, washes up fuzzy and then it feels like a lightweight flannel. I don't think it would take friction well so pants are out, and these handwoven twills, Ive learned, lead to floppy tops/shirts. So it's a good April/May/September weather skirt now!
I also did some trial and error with the silhouette to figure out what works best for my body. Gathers or pleats, is what I settled on, and this fabric takes gathers better than pleats. Kind of has a hanbok vibe though I wasn't planning that ahead of time.
Today's #memademay is this self drafted black and brown striped linen skirt! I got this fabric in the winter and quickly realized it made no sense for NYC winter, so I pivoted to this skirt. It's extremely voluminous, I think used the full 2.5 yards I had.
It was my first self drafted item so I couldn't figure out how to make my own pockets. One day soon I should probably take apart the side seams and add some.
