I have been incredibly moved by the messages I’ve received here from those of you who have been touched by suicide in your families. I’m proud that Hetty’s story made clear that you are seen, you’re valued and you’re never alone.
I’ve encouraged anyone who is struggling to reach out to 988 for support. So, I am especially disappointed that funding for the Press 3 option has been cut. This is the option that connected LGBTQ+ folks with Suicide and Crisis Lifeline counselors trained to support them.
The Trevor Project is stepping in to fill some of that gap. But right now, 50% fewer LGBTQ+ kids are getting the help they need. Please consider joining me in donating to their Emergency Lifeline Campaign.
Did you know that suicide is the second leading cause of death for kids between the ages of 10-14? Did you know that LGBTQ+ kids are 4 times more likely to attempt suicide?
