Sometimes I forget to pause.
To stop running after deadlines. But today I want to take a breath, celebrate and be grateful.
This (as many other projects) stayed in a box since 2015. I reopened during @bottegafinzioni under the sight of @christianpoli71 and @pippoinno and the other colleagues. It changed shape.
I always considered it “lame”. But after I received the first step selection from Sundance Development Track, I learnt that I am myself worst judge.
But this thaught me also something new: that I can write a full draft screenplay of 130 Pages in 10 days. (+treatment as well 😂💀). It is far from being perfect and still need rewriting.
Now it doesn’t matter how it’ll go. I wasn’t even believing when submitting. But it has been satisfying.
Creative work is like nurturing a desertic field, hoping for something to grow - someday - which is not granted - while struggling with everyday life issues.
A roulette.
And that’s why the path, should at least be a satisfying and enjoyable ride.

GUYOTA - follows a young boy who narrowly escapes a volcanic eruption on La Palma island, finding refuge in a banana plantation. As carbon monoxide renders the island uninhabitable, he survives by forming a symbiosis with the sap of a flower. This mysterious elixir triggers vivid hallucinations, making him recall events and emotions of the disaster while grappling with uncertainty about his future.

Rather than using game footage as mere visual support, the film treats these spaces as virtual locations—unchangeable digital sets with their own atmosphere and constraints. This limitation becomes a creative strength: without control over lighting or scenery, the filmmaker turns to composition, montage, and text to convey emotional and political meaning.
What begins as a bright, idyllic landscape gradually reveals itself as stifling and alienating—mirroring the experience of a generation caught in structural precarity.
Set entirely within the environments of a video game, Limbo, directed by Rebeca Elena Carini, created during the first edition of Nouvelle Bug and presented at the 2nd Cagliari Essay Film Festival in 2023, navigates through the voices of young Italians facing the challenges, contradictions, and disillusionment of today’s job market.
Rebeca Elena Carini holds degrees in Visual Arts from the Academy of Fine Arts of Brera in Milan (105/110) and in Cinema from RUFA - Rome University of Fine Arts (110/110 cum laude). She began her career in documentary filmmaking under the mentorship of Andrea Segre, with her short EX/OUT winning the Gavioli Prize. Her second film, Meglio un giorno, premiered at Visioni dal Mondo and was selected by several Italian and international festivals. In 2023, she made her feature documentary debut with The Land You Belong, supported by Eurimages, Emilia-Romagna Film Commission, Al Jazeera Balkans, WEMW and CNC Film Fund. The film premiered at the Krakow Film Festival (Academy Award qualifying), and has since screened at TIFF Romania, Astra Film Festival, Visioni Italiane, and won the TOPDOC award at Biografilm Festival.
