Round a year and change ago I had the chance to hear and hang with the great Harold Mabern. He talked about music, musicians, and life at the Chi back in the day. Then we all went to Jim’s Original, and I saw him devour one of those proud Chicago’s cheeseburgers, and for some reason, made me feel really good about humanity at the time.

I just heard about his passing to the other side, but like many other of the fearless leaders of this music, his spirit will keep burning at high heat. So long Mr. Mabern. Thank you for everything.
