Hey book babes! I know I don’t show my face on here nearly enough, but I loved Nicol’s reintroduction post so much that it inspired me to share one of my own. Watching our ReadWithMeSis community grow has been such a joy, and I can’t wait to see what incredible stories 2026 brings 📚✨ I love writing almost as much as I love reading, and in 2025 I published my debut novel. As you can probably tell, I read across genres, but romantasy and mystery thrillers will always have my heart. I’m a sucker for a tragic ending even if it leaves me in tears and if you see me give a five-star review, just know I will never shut up about it. I finally attended my first book convention this year, and I fear it wasn’t the best first impression. I’m giving this one 3/5 ⭐️. There were some highlights, but overall I won’t be recommending it. The pros were pretty straightforward. The convention gave readers the opportunity to meet some amazing authors and sit in on exciting, thought-provoking panels.✍️ Enter the cons… Lines, lines, and more lines. Dare I say I experienced shorter wait times at Disney World during spring break? I wish I was joking. 🫠 The line to get in took an hour, only to stand in another line just to get down the single escalator that took you to the floor for author signings. Once there, you again queued up, even if you had a reservation, for your author signing or panel. Hungry after standing in line for 2.5 hours before even getting your first author signature? Don’t worry, there’s another hour-long line to get food, which was extremely limited. This event was clearly oversold, understaffed, and poorly executed. 🤦‍♀️ On top of the long lines, I was appalled by some of the behavior I witnessed from both attendees and staff members. There was yelling and aggressive physical contact, including shoving and mobbing, and people blatantly cutting lines. Rules were not followed by staff or attendees. Most ARC drops stated they would not allow lines until 15 minutes prior. However, when I arrived at the correct time, I was informed that all ARCs had been given away an hour earlier. 🤷‍♀️ Although I didn’t go into the weekend with high hopes due to the now notorious reservation fiasco, I was happy to get a few books signed and sit in on three panels. But let’s be honest, for spending two whole days at a convention, I expected much more. I don’t think I’ll completely write off book conventions, but I don’t know if I will be returning to BookCon NYC again. I want to reiterate that I fully believe this was an event planning issue and not the fault of the vendors or attending authors, who were the highlight of the experience. ❤️ -Ash #bookcon #nyc #2026 #booksbooksbooks #booklover
