The stockings are hung, the gifts are wrapped, and the halls are decked—but our collabers? We’re already looking ahead! Forget what’s under the tree, we’re talking about the books we’re planning to gift *ourselves*. Whether it’s finally tackling that NetGalley TBR, buying a new release the second it drops, or patiently waiting for a swoon-worthy special edition, these are the books we cannot wait to curl up with in 2026.

Y’all, it was hard to narrow this list down and I’m sure I’m missing some that I’m excited about. I’m lucky enough to have some of these as eARCs (and still sad about missing out on others) and I can’t wait to see some of the special editions that are releasing in 2026!

Happy pub day to one of my favorite reads of this year!! A queer, cyberpunk reimagining of Fitzgerald's classic, with messy BIPOC leads, a critique on the American Nightmare, and a surprising amount of tenderness.
@krismfajardo , of all the Gatsby retellings I've read, yours is my favorite, old sport. 🥂

@Chapter.Chatter.Collabs presents to you our collab with the theme: Morally Grey May 🖤⚔️
Not every character wants to be the hero.
Some make impossible choices. Some blur the line between right and wrong. Some would burn the world down for the people they love. Today we’re celebrating the manipulators, antiheroes, villains-with-a-heart, and dangerously compelling characters who keep us questioning everything. Because sometimes the best characters aren’t good… they’re morally grey. 🖤📚
🖤📚⚔️🩶🔥✨
We all love a morally grey MC. But what if I told you there was a book where everyone is morally grey?
What if I told you it’s available as a Read Now on NetGalley through May 10?
What if I told you there’s a whole Discord dedicated to feral ARC readers?
Are you interested yet?

@Chapter.Chatter.Collabs presents to you our collab with the theme: Fire, Courage & Rebellion 🔥🗡️
Not every story plays it safe.
Some spark revolutions. Some rise from the ashes. Some refuse to bow, no matter the cost. Today we’re celebrating the characters fueled by fire, driven by courage, and bold enough to stand against everything meant to break them. Because sometimes the most powerful stories are the ones that dare to fight back. 🔥📚

“ɪꜰ ᴡᴇ ʙᴜʀɴ, ʏᴏᴜ ʙᴜʀɴ ᴡɪᴛʜ ᴜꜱ!”
So many of us will forever remember Katniss Everdeen’s iconic declaration from The Hunger Games, a cry against the Capitol and its brutal regime. Now, more than ever, we need these stories of hope, courage, and tenacity. Here are six books (some expected, some maybe not so much) that give me those same vibes of bravery and rebellion:
“Queen of Faces” by @petralordauthor
“Firstborn of the Sun” by @justmarvewrites
“This Monster of Mine” by @shalini.writes
“And the Sky Bled” by @shatiwrites
“Daggermouth” by @hm.wolfe
“This Wretched Alchemy” by @tinamarsbooks

We’re just past the first quarter of 2026, so let’s take a quick look of some of the books I’ve read so far this year! Lots of ARC reads, lots of four- and five-star reads, and sadly, a few disappointments. Also, randomly, two different books that begin with “This Wretched.” (And there’s a third one I want to read coming out later this year called “The Wretched Divine”--is 2026 the year of the wretched?)
Books featured in this post:
🪷 “Good Luck, Babe!” by Erin Baldwin
🪷 “To Steal a Throne” by Gabi Burton
🪷 “Boots Beneath Her Bed” by Taylor Esposito
🪷 “This Wretched Beauty” by Elle Grenier
🪷 “The Midnight Club” by Margot Harrison
🪷 “Devil of the Deep” by Falencia Jean-Francois
🪷 “The Killing Spell” by Shay Klauwe
🪷 “King Foretold” by Jayci Lee
🪷 “This Wretched Alchemy” by Tina Mars
🪷 “Our Rogue Fates” by Sarah Marsh Glenn
🪷 “Blood & Breath” by Qurratalyn
🪷 “The Seaglass Blade” by JC Snow
🪷 “Bury the Sea” by Mona Tewari
🪷 “Boring Asian Female” by Canwen Xu

It’s my birthday! And like all of us, there are certain things I have on my bookish wish list–some reasonable (I don’t think it’s too much to ask for physical ARCs, more bookshelves, and a firm NO on book bans), others not so much (magical tattoos and Kadra with his slutty little robes, alas). Swipe through to see what things I’m wishing for when I blow out my birthday candles!

“The Everlasting” is a 2026 Hugo Awards finalist for Best Novel! This was one of my favorite books of 2025: an absolutely beautiful story where the ending both broke me and healed me at the same time. I was swept up in the story and the prose and I loved how the time loops were done, with the subtle differences in each loop.
Much like “Starling House,” the characters, as they’re described, are on that somewhat gray scale of likeability. But Harrow writes them so well that I fell in love with them, just like I did with Opal and Arthur. One thing I really enjoyed about this story is the different views of what makes a "hero" versus a "coward." Una is a hero because she fights for queen and country, even despite the doubts she has about the mission. Meanwhile, Owen and his father were considered cowards for deserting wars they didn't believe in. There are also different ways in which Owen and Una are both heroes and cowards in their relationship throughout the time loops.
Congratulations to @alix.e.harrow , as well as to all the other nominees!

Happy book birthday @authormirandalyn !!
I was lucky enough to receive an eARC of this book from the author and when I tell you I could not predict where this story was going at all. I thought I knew at various points and the answer was, no. I did not know. And I mean that in the best way.
This was my first Miranda Lyn book and I think she does a wonderful job with world-building and her characters, especially the relationships between the characters. For me, the non-romantic relationships were the best. Found family is one of my favorite tropes and this book does it so well. The Venatori shouldn't be friends, they should just be hunters on a mission, and yet they form these strong bonds and grow so close that I loved them and wanted to protect them all.
My other favorite part came when the action and the high stakes really came into play. I loved the actual investigation, the mystery, the action, the quest. (I was less engaged in the political machinations, even though I understood why they were happening.) Towards the end of the book, I could barely put it down because of all the plot twists and turns and surprises.
AND THAT ENDING. What is it with the books I’ve been reading this year leaving me HANGING with their endings? Thank God the sequel comes out this year because otherwise I don’t think I could handle it.
“Hide the Witches” is out now wherever books are sold, plus @thebookishbox /@thebookishshop has a beautiful PINK special edition!
QOTD: how do you feel about cliffhangers? Love them? Loathe them? Ambivalent?
