Giving Tuesday is tomorrow. Why READ RVA? Because more than 100,000 adults in Greater Richmond struggle with basic literacy skills. This is a local crisis—one that affects jobs, families, confidence, and daily life. Tomorrow, we’re working toward a $10,000 Giving Tuesday goal, and the first $5,000 will be doubled. Every donor will be entered into our Giving Tuesday giveaway! 👉 Link in bio to stand with your neighbors. #GivingTuesday #READRVA #AdultLiteracyMatters #WhyREADRVA

Two days until Giving Tuesday. Why READ RVA? Because when mothers learn, families learn. A mother’s reading skill is the strongest predictor of her child’s academic success—more powerful than income or neighborhood. This year, we’re working toward a $10,000 Giving Tuesday goal, and the first $5,000 donated will be matched. Every donor is entered into our Giving Tuesday giveaway! 👉 Link in bio to invest in families. #GivingTuesday #READRVA #AdultLiteracyMatters #WhyREADRVA

Three days until Giving Tuesday. Why READ RVA? Because nearly half of adults living in poverty struggle with literacy—and that barrier stops opportunity in its tracks. Your support helps adults learn to read, secure jobs, and build stability for their families. We’re working toward a $10,000 Giving Tuesday goal, and the first $5,000 will be matched. All donors are entered into our Giving Tuesday giveaway! 👉 Link in bio to support the mission. #GivingTuesday #READRVA #AdultLiteracyMatters #WhyREADRVA

At READ RVA, teaching is personal and so is the impact. Every lesson builds more than literacy skills. It builds confidence, independence, and real opportunity. And those changes don’t stop with one learner. They carry into families, workplaces, and throughout our community. That’s what READ RVA teachers make possible every day. This Teacher Appreciation Week, we’re so grateful for the time, care, and commitment you bring to every session and for the ripple effect you create across Richmond. 💙

Tired of Guessing | What Adult Literacy Looks Like in Richmond I learned early not to assume anything about who can read. A man once stopped me on Broad Street. He held out a scrap of paper with an address and directions scrawled across it and asked if I could read it. He didn’t fidget—he just stood quietly while I read the words aloud. When I finished, relief and a flush of embarrassment crossed his face as he walked on. That moment stayed with me because it wasn’t dramatic. No confession. No tears. Just a quiet workaround, one of hundreds that adults use every day in Richmond to survive systems built on reading. Most people think of literacy as something settled in childhood: you learn it in school, you master it, or you don’t. End of story. But that’s not how real life works, especially here, where economic instability, underfunded schools, incarceration, immigration, and trauma have shaped adult lives. Literacy doesn’t disappear if you don’t have it; it becomes something you learn to hide. Read more, link in bio. Featured: @read_rva ✏️: Mary Graham • • #richmond #rva #rvamag

This Read Across America Week, we’re proud to spotlight conversations that go beyond the page. 📚✨ Our CEO, Karen O’Brien, CARITAS participant Calvin, and volunteer Suzanne Long recently took part in READ Between the Wines, a quarterly seminar series from @read_rva that raises awareness about adult literacy and its deep connection to social justice and opportunity. Literacy opens doors - to employment, stability, confidence, and second chances. We’re grateful to share space in conversations that remind us how powerful words, stories, and education can be. 💙 #ReadAcrossAmerica #LiteracyMatters #RVA
