Why RE:ORIENT?
The "Orient" or the "oriental" is a Western imagination of the East. It portrays the East as something exotic, exciting, yet backwards and savage - something to feared and coveted in equal measure. The lens of Orientalism is, in many ways, the root of harmful stereotypes about not only ESEAs but all people of colour.
To orient oneself is to find your place in relation to others. We find our identity through our connections. As ESEAs, we have a connection to each other, our families, and our cultures. As pole dancers, we have a connection and a duty to the skrippers and SWers who paved the way. All of us are many identities rolled in one.
So, RE:ORIENT aims to a) give ESEA pole dancers a space to be themselves and form connections, b) honour and give back to skrippers and SWers, c) promote ESEA events and initiatives, and d) challenge harm where we can.
Time to 大展鴻圖 indeed.

What is ESEA?
ESEA stands for East and South East Asian, used to refer to people who identify with the cultures and ethnicities of East and Southeast Asia. It brings visibility back to those who are categorised as either "Chinese" or "Any Other Asian", and replaces the derogatory term "Oriental".
It's not a perfect label, but no label is perfect. It brings us together, then we make it's meaning.

i feel like there's a lot more i could be doing with this (be more organised, do more socialising/icebreaking, be better prepared with technical issues, promote better etc etc), but my capacity is what it is for now
not my best freestyle, not my worst freestyle - i just really love this song and apparently did you know burnout/general fatigue will turn your brain into soup so you cant think?
