Welcome to @commodity Fragrances new Scent Space!
The digitally native brand’s first ever flagship store, just recently opened its doors in the heart of #soho #nyc. Step in through the enormous historic steel doors for a glimpse inside and discover what it’s all about.
The concept aims to embody the brand’s bold DNA, through a physical space based on exploration and discovery of its “Scent Spaces” (a term coined by Commodity that enables you to take control of your scent’s projection within the space around you, through three scent concentrations)
As a modern , design-driven American perfumery, it was crucial to reflect its identity through a unique space unlike any other. Initial inspiration was drawn from how one explores the brand’s digital shop combined with how one experiences an art gallery or museum, then translated to the physical form. A place designed for exploration, information, and visual interest to keep one engaged and intrigued in discovering the brand. A store intended to draw you in with curiosity and provide an inviting space to linger through all the scents.

How would you design a space that is about the invisible sense of smell?
More specifically, a space that is about the invisible scent projected within the space around yourself (aka “Scent Space”)?
That was the challenging question and intent for creating Scent Space, @commodity Fragrances’ new flagship store.
At the same time, the place had to reflect the unmistakable characteristics of the brand itself.
The design approach was to utilize our other senses in creating a tangible space that allows for discovery of the olfactive brand.
In similar fashion to the digitally native brands’ website, upon entry one is greeted with a message guiding them on paths taken to explore their collection of fragrances.
One can discover by individual scent (along the “black key” wall), by preferred projection of Scent Space (along central floating displays) , or by all scent collections (along the “black box" wall).
Much like an art exhibit through visual communication, wayfinding, and sampling of products, one can linger through the store to learn about and experience Scent Space.

It’s official! The Hog Mountain House is a #LEEDhomes Awards recipient in the Outstanding Single Family category! Thank you to the U.S. Green Building Council for recognizing this work and to the project team who was committed to using LEED to create a healthy, sustainable home.
The @usgbc is recognizing LEED-certified residential projects that are positively impacting communities through sustainable, healthy and resilient design, as well as the builders and developers who are making them possible. I’m so pleased this project was recognized as a model for green homes.

The concept aims to embody the DNA of the Commodity brand in the physical form. A modern, American perfumery that’s rethinking fragrance in the digital world. The store is a reflection of the brand’s elemental approach and belief that simplicity is the new luxury. A design based on exploration and discovery of its fragrances experienced within the spatial form of their website.

Last But Not Least!
The Hog Mountain House
Series of #cozyspaces #10:
The #Greatroom-
exactly what it’s named to be….the amazing grand room that contains many cozy spaces within and deserves a spotlight of its own.
The design intent was to make the heart of the home feel as though you are living in an everchanging landscape painting.
10ft tall steel columns and beams were designed to support the expansive 30ft glass wall and frame the picture-perfect panoramic view. The property’s best feature displayed front and center to experience the daily functions of home amongst the outdoors.
Some features to highlight:
🔸 8’ bi-parting sliding doors open to extend the living space to the gravel patio outside, while another opens to the dining space under the #pergola.
🔸 Custom sunshades to block out heat of the summer sun while allowing it to come in for warmth during winter season.

The comfy couch in the #livingroom area is the ideal spot to lounge by the fireplace with a cup of tea and a good book. Soft colors and textures were chosen for furnishings to create a casual and inviting environment. A comfortable space with amazing views…..makes it hard to ever get up off the couch!

So let’s head out to get a preview of what the outdoor cozy space under the #pergola is like once spring has sprung. Just outside the Great Room through sliding doors is the place for lounging and dining al fresco within the beautiful #catskillmountains landscape. The cedar framing above, the rustic stone wall, and the pea gravel patio were chosen to create a sheltered and inviting setting nestled within the expanse of the outdoors.
