🌍 What does it mean to practise medicine at population scale? At #RCPMED26, Dr Emma Vaux, Dr Amrita D’Souza, Professor Philippa Matthews, Dr Hilal Al Saffar and Dr Waheed Arian explored the challenges of delivering safe, effective care in complex and high-pressure environments - from scaling hepatitis B treatment globally to managing the clinical and public health demands of mass gatherings such as the Hajj. The session highlighted the importance of early warning systems, surge planning and global collaboration as health systems continue to face growing pressures worldwide. During the session, Professor Philippa Matthews was also presented with a certificate in recognition of delivering The Lady Estelle Wolfson lecture: ‘Scaling up hepatitis B treatment to reach global elimination targets – 300 million reasons’. At #RCPMED26 we launched our 2026–30 strategy — setting a clear direction for how we support physicians and help shape the future of healthcare and the NHS. Built through engagement with our members and fellows, the strategy reflects what physicians told us matters most: a college that listens, supports and speaks up for the profession and patients. Our four priorities: 🟣 Connection 🟡 Standards 🟢 Voice 🔵 Renewal Our president, professor Mumtaz Patel, said: “This is a strategy built on listening. Now it is time to act.” Together, we can strengthen our profession, improve patient care and help shape a healthier future for all. 🔗 Read the full strategy via the link in bio. #RCP #RCPMED26 #Healthcare #Physicians #PatientCare #MedicalLeadership

In 2026, smoking remains the biggest avoidable cause of death and disability in the UK. But the impact is not equal across the nation. Today, we have launched a new report on smoking, health and social justice that shows smoking inequality is not driven by individual choice, but by structural factors - including the social determinants of health and the ongoing influence of the tobacco industry. We are calling on government to introduce opt-out smoking cessation services into all NHS settings so that support reaches those who need it most. Read the full report via the link our bio.
