A few months ago I was asked to shoot the cover of @themotoringjournal ’s outdoor issue and feature my pickup G. As the great guys over their know, I’ll take any excuse to get out and get my G’s dirty! Amazing to see this special machine grace the cover of such a cool publication and an absolute trip seeing it in my favorite neighborhood store, @deusemporium . While I’ve much enjoyed my 9+ months away from any timelines, a few big gestures from a certain three pointed star needed to be appreciated publicly. A few months ago, I woke to an e-mail from Germany asking if I was available to shoot a very special G-Class being unveiled to the world at an upcoming VIP event in Beverly Hills. The very special G in question? The landmark electric G-Class. Now, I’ve felt close to this project for a long time, not least because 2 years earlier I was extremely privileged to shoot the one and only EQG concept in this very city for @mercedesbenzusa . But, it was the second half of the e-mail that had my jaw on the floor… It went on to say that Mercedes-Benz wanted to borrow my freshly-completed pickup G to display at the event, helping to usher in the next era of G-Class. With my truck parked alongside other iconic G-Class, guests would be taken down a “path of experience” to remind them just how high the bar is for this new electrified Geländewagen. Fast forward a couple months and my truck isn’t on the path of experience, it’s being driven up ON STAGE. Sharing the spotlight with none other than @kendalljenner rather attractive cabriolet, my G would be displayed alongside the yet to be unveiled electric G580 wearing the same glorious shade of Desert Sand. What. An. Honor. Beyond meeting and working with so many of my hero’s, looking across the party to see my dad chatting with @georgerussell63 , or being treated to a killer @travisscott performance, it was the outpouring of love for the pickup that floored me. Car person or not, the honesty, charm, and unquestionable capability of these cars gets under your skin in all the right ways. And while your next G may be powered by electricity, not by a clattering old diesel engine like mine, just remember, the lineage runs deep. So, a massive thank you to my @mercedesbenz family for the incredible memories and even more incredible G-Class. First few days with the SL63 have been pretty sensational. Haven’t been more impressed or fallen in love this hard for as long as I can remember. Design, dynamics, quality, absolutely over the top. Last year I had the opportunity to take @theautofocus @hanmust & @__merryweather on a 3 G Death Valley adventure. It was the first time I had all 3 @mercedesbenzgclass out in the wild together and man, what an experience. Thankful for the outstanding company and this awesome Super8 footage by @__merryweather .
