AZAR’S IDOL SHOP is a modern day take on the Quranic Uncle equivalent of Abraham’s Biblical father Terah. In the Quranic narrative Abraham, or Ibrahim, lobbies his father to stop producing idols for sale in the markets of Babylon, and instead worship the one true God. This installation imagines the TikTok Shop as the new Idol Marketplace, and the new genre of Islamic Consumer Products as the Idol of choice for Muslims subsumed in the algorithmic itemisation of a spiritual tradition, into a commercial identity marker. The work muses on real efforts by companies like Remitly, Revolut and Western Union to recruit Muslims into their financialised umbrella by sacralising finance and commerce as rite and worship. The phrase of Remitly’s 2026 Ramadan campaign leaves little to the imagination: “Each Transfer Brings You Closer”.
With the encroach of Cybernetics and the increasing domestication of Cybernetic technologies like wearables, biohacking, tech-wear, digital interfaces, everything-apps and portable devices, the work speculates on the robotic, uploaded and perhaps transhuman – spiritualised futures of the machines, networks and products that we are not only inviting into, but also producing for our homes.
The logic of war has changed, but our language hasn’t caught up. War is no longer just fought over land or bodies. It has expanded into systems that predict, organise and control reality itself, our technologies.
What Yuk Hui calls Cosmotechnics reminds us that technology is never neutral, but shaped by culture and worldview. So what happens when conflict moves beyond territory, and into the systems that structure how reality is governed? @razatari breaks down this shift and what it means for the world we’re entering.

In the pre-modern Islamicate world, intellectual production was not only spiritual resource but also political currency. The works of Golden Age philosopher Al Farabi are largely marked by his commencing of the translation movement, the opening of Persian and Greek libraries in early Islamic history and the translation of their works into Arabic. His philosophical project culminated in the conception of an ideal city of virtue or Madinatul Fadilah, a spiritual rework of Plato’s Republic.
Despite this idealist projection onto Islamic Futures however, Farabi and many others’ works became trafficked as much as they were read across the Islamic World. The nearby Silk Road functioned as a highway for trade – caravans carrying spices, silks, sages, harems, arms and spiritual texts. Being born in modern day Kazakhstan, Farabi is today honoured as a patron saint of Central Asia; he has been featured on Soviet Postal stamps throughout the 20th Century and even on the 1992 Kazakh 1-tenge banknote. It’s arguable that his face thus has become more recognisable in these regions than his works. It is almost certain that the notes carrying his likeness have been used across arms deals, drug deals and the dealing of human beings.
The City of Virtue that Farabi hoped his region might develop perhaps now exists in The SWIFT network (Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication) , an analogue financial technology, that stands today in place of the Silk Road highway as a substitute for meaning, commerce and diplomacy across borders and conflict. The unseen spiritual realm that Al Farabi once argued for the case of building a society on the basis of perhaps exists now, not as it once did in the hearts of pre-modern man, but in the closed-loop financial networks and algorithms of an equally deifying and all-encompassing techno-financial mystic system.
Round the neck of all wisdoms hangs a price-tag.

THE YEAR IS 2056, incursions into the surrounding anthropocene environment have corrupted all groundwater flows in the Gulf apart from the infinitely spouting ZamZam fountain. However recent regional conflict vying for recently discovered rare earth minerals have discoloured the rock formations beneath Mecca, and now the Divine Desalination plant spews a tinted liquid.
Almost like water, but distinctly different in its effect, NO & LO: ZAMZAM 2056, has become a limited and traded commodity across the Muslim world — highly sought after due to its healing, and energising effects. Reports from as far as Somaliland and Uttar Pradesh allege symptoms described as “spiritual superpowers”. 5-year-olds in Central Asia seen flying, Malaysian aunties shooting green laserbeams out of their hijabs. The Muslim world has both been seized and subordinated by this revelation. Step inside a near-future remote safehouse belonging to the fictitious organisation “S.W.I.F.T.I.E.” set within a council-flat-cum-hacker-house: illegally reproducing high level surveillance technologies, trafficking digital muslim avatars and laundering money for supernatural, superintelligent & superwealthy clientelle. A world of residual back-alley technologies, petrol-based biohacking, RS3 remaps gone haywire, prayer beads turned into wires, souls transferred via wire and ritual participatory botfarms.
