ARTIST CALL OUT!
Room to Play is back for 2026 and we're looking for emerging artists (aged 18-26) who want to dive into interactive sound, art and performance with a curious, playful spirit.
What is it? Room to Play is a creative technology course and exhibition for emerging artists and creatives interested in exploring interactive and digital processes in sound, art and performance.
This year, we're teaming up again with @ray_interactive to dream up a brand new collaborative installation at @hiddendoorarts

📣 Come and view the latest generative artwork on display at Edinburgh Futures Institute!
A series of evocative and colourful patterns inspired by the stars can now be viewed on our giant screen at Level 2 following the launch of "You Are Here," a new artwork generated by specialist design studio, Ray Interactive.
You Are Here is a generative artwork based on the live positions of the stars from a precise viewpoint on earth, in this case, Edinburgh Futures Institute.
The piece was co-commissioned by Aberdeen Performing Arts and New Media Scotland’s Alt-w Fund with investment from Creative Scotland and the University of Edinburgh.

@ray_interactive shared how, after being briefed by a festival to create a sculpture honouring the origins of electronic music whilst inspired by Claes Oldenburg’s larger-than-life sculptures of everyday objects, he brought to life giant 909 and 303 machines. 🎹🎵
You may have spotted the 303 and 909 installs at festivals like @greenmanfest , @bangface and more recently @weoutherefest - bringing a sense of nostalgia and playfulness, from those who still own the original machines to groups of friends discovering them for the first time.
‘It’s about giving people a chance to step on stage for a moment, to play, to connect and perform’.

Apply to join this 6-week creative technology course led by Tinderbox Collective & Ray Interactive, to build a collaborative exciting new installation for Hidden Door 2025!

The '9ft-909' is back from the dead! We are re-animating this beast for Halloween.
It's been over 4 years since this playable scaled-up model of the legendary TR-909 drum machine has seen the light of night and we're super excited to get it fired up again.

The craic was mighty down by the Giant 303 @bluedotfestival . Thanks to Bluedot for having us along, there was loads to do with a perfect balance of music, art and science.
