Another one of my absolute favourites from my @ray.marsh shoot!
It took me a year to nail the kip whip so I had the idea to try and get a photo of that wonderful pre-landing moment. Imagine my horror when I realised burst photos are not possible with flash - cue hundreds of kips at the very end of the shoot when I was already tired to get the exact right combination of an actually good kip plus Rachel having to press the button at the exact perfect moment. She was really great at timing it, I was not! My knees got a little sore by the end but it was totally worth it. I think out of all the pictures we got this one feels the most âmeâ đ

They told me that when you get into pole dancing it soon becomes your entire personality. And they were right! Iâm so obsessed with this art form that I decided to sign up for the @ray.marsh photo shoot at the studio. I had overheard some of the younginsâ at the studio saying they wanted to do the shoot so that one day they would remember how hot they were in their 20s. That ship has LONG since sailed for me so I just said âThis is going to be the picture at my funeral one day. If anyone gets offended by a picture of me dressed as a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader hanging off a pole at my funeral, well then you know they didnât know me very well. Donât listen to anything they have to say about me.â đ¤Łđ¤Łđ¤Ł This whole process was so much fun! Iâll tease a few more photos out but this one was my favorite.â¤ď¸

Having said that I actually wanted to come on and write something serious about âgiving upâ on extreme bendy tricks. If you swipe across youâll see a video of the time I thought I was the absolute shit when @hannahrose_aerial managed to get me into a spatchcock back in 2019 đ achieving the latest bendy tricks used to be my biggest motivator back in the day!
I still have my straddle oversplit (thanks hypermobile hips) but since pregnancy / turning 30 my body has been saying a very hard no to me pushing it into positions like Bird of Paradise, Spatchcock etc. Iâve sustained injuries to both hamstrings and my back in the last year alone and I think itâs time to focus on building active strength rather than flexibility for longevity in this sport, particularly so I can continue to run after my 2 year old boy without pain.
Hopefully not a âgiving up foreverâ but a refocus on whatâs actually going to be most productive and enjoyable for me in this particular phase of life! Pole is such an extreme sport with soooo many different facets you could focus on. I really think thereâs no shame in leaving tricks that donât agree with your body to one side, so that you can truly master the things that come more naturally and enjoyable to you.
