Over a third of Timor-Leste’s households grow coffee. However, most of these families live below the poverty line, relying on old trees, decades past their prime, producing only a fraction of their potential in poorly nourished soils.
The 11 Million Trees program is a 25-year effort to change this by addressing underlying causes, and we’re inviting the international coffee community to join our effort.
We’ve spent the first eight years on the ground working to understand what holds Timor-Leste’s coffee sector back; testing processing methods, fixing quality bottlenecks, mapping the limits of power, transport, training, markets, and agronomy.
Now in Phase 2, the solutions are clear: planting new coffee trees, harnessing renewable energy, repurposing plastic waste, and utilising bamboo infrastructure to form a practical regenerative system: one that can lift yields, stabilise quality, and ultimately double the value of coffee exports in a way that meaningfully reduces poverty for coffee-growing households.

Your support is helping us to bring renewable solar energy to communities in Timor-Leste.
In collaboration with @bppglobal@ewb_australia and with support from the Australian Government, we are building 100% solar powered washing stations in remote areas of Timor-Leste.
These hubs will empower those currently living off-grid; through clean, efficient and sustainable coffee processing. This infrastructure will lead to the solar production of electricity year round, supporting local present and future industry; far beyond coffee.
We had the incredible opportunity to introduce the project at @cop29_azerbaijan , alongside Felisbela Guterres Pires of @ewb_australia .
You can head to our website to read the full project structure, expanding the impact that specialty coffee can have.
If you’ve enjoyed roasting or brewing any of the coffees we have purchased from Timor-Leste so far, then you’re already part of the journey. Please spread the word.
Our goal is to maximise the impact coffee can have, for those who need it most. Let’s get to work.
Whether you’re new here, or have been with us for years, this is our elevator pitch.
We believe that economic freedom through coffee is possible in our lifetime. And to be part of the charge, we give 100% of our profits to the producers we represent.
Thank you for joining us.
Hey London! We hear there’s a big festival this weekend. We’re perched just across the road on the first floor @commercial.tavern.e1 with our friends @falconspecialty
Join us to taste 2026 Mexico microlots and coffees from the first harvest of a Mozambique pilot project. Kicking off at 13:30 tomorrow, 14/5!

Looking at how bamboo can be treated and used for building materials as part of the 11 Million Trees program. #11MT
Join us next Thursday, 30th April from 3pm at Elsewhere Deptford for a special coffee cupping hosted by the brilliant team at @rawmaterial.coffee .
They’ll be pouring a selection of their latest Mexican microlots; a great opportunity to explore some unique flavour profiles and taste coffees that highlight the diversity and character of Mexico’s growing regions.
Whether you're a seasoned cupper or just curious to deepen your knowledge, this is a relaxed, welcoming session open to all. Come by, taste something new, and chat all things coffee with us x
We’re well underway with early work on phase two of 11 Million Trees 🌲 in Timor Leste. At Raimutin, we’ve been busy upgrading the wet mill facilities in preparation for harvest. Joined by Matt’s neighbour (another Mat - though with one T) we’ve worked alongside the Atsabe team to install recycled plastic panels and enhance the station’s infrastructure.
Steady work with a healthy dose of coffee breaks as we gear up for the harvest period.
Next Saturday Phil returns to Glasgow Coffee Festival, and this time with plenty of tasty treats. We’ll have samples of our fresh Burundi arrivals alongside some very new and shiny lots from a pilot project we’re delighted to support in Mozambique! The coffees include several trial varietals and we’re looking forward to sharing them with you all.
