♻️ From solar e-waste to sustainable impact in Vanuatu 📍
Delivered by @unsw in partnership with the Vanuatu Institute of Technology and the Department of Energy, and supported by the Australian Government through #DFATBPP, the Fixim Sola project used circular economy approaches to tackle solar e-waste and strengthen energy access across Vanuatu.
Rather than installing new infrastructure, the focus has been on building local skills to repair and maintain off-grid solar - extending product life, reducing waste and improving energy reliability.
♻️ 90,000+ people benefiting from improved access to repair services
🔧 140+ people trained in solar repair and maintenance
⚡ 110+ solar systems repaired
👩🔧 45 women trained — more than double the original target
🏘️ 7 local repair initiatives established
From new jobs and businesses to stronger local skills and confidence, this project shows how circular economy solutions can power both livelihoods and resilience. As it transitions to local partners, its impact will continue across Vanuatu.

🌦️ New insurance model helping farmers manage extreme weather in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta 🌦️
Farmers across the Mekong Delta are strengthening their ability to manage climate risk and adapt to changing conditions. Through the #DFATBPP, the Australian Government partnered with Hillridge and MSIG to pilot a new form of climate insurance designed for smallholder farmers.
This partnership introduced parametric insurance, using weather data to automatically trigger payouts during events such as excessive rainfall. This provides fast, predictable financial support without complex claims, helping farmers recover more quickly and maintain productivity.
Over the course of the partnership:
✅ 25 insurance payouts triggered following extreme rainfall
✅ 1,265 smallholder farmers insured
✅ 1,200+ hectares of crops protected over 3 seasons
✅ 60% of payouts reached women farmers
Delivered through cooperatives and agri-finance platforms, the model is creating a clear pathway to scale, reaching more farmers and strengthening resilient agricultural systems across the Mekong Delta.
Congratulations to Hillridge and MSIG for their partnership and leadership in delivering this innovative approach.

☀️ Meet the people who are powering clean energy delivery on the ground across the Pacific ☀️
Following the REnew Pacific Annual Forum in Suva last week, we brought together our REnew Pacific delivery partners, alongside earlier #DFATBPP pilot partners, from across the Pacific and Timor-Leste to connect, reflect and share practical delivery experience.
This group is what makes it happen on the ground, designing, delivering and sustaining off-grid energy solutions in some of the most remote communities across the region.
It was wonderful to spend time with them and hear their unique approaches to tackling complex delivery challenges in remote and island contexts. Huge thanks to everyone who came - and to all our partners - for making this important work possible!
REnew Pacific is Australia’s $75 million investment in off-grid renewable energy for rural and remote communities across the Pacific and Timor-Leste. It’s part of the Pacific Climate Infrastructure Financing Partnership (#PCIFP), delivered through the Australian Infrastructure Financing Facility for the Pacific (#AIFFP).
