Man do I love riding on the train!
@robreich introduced me to this piece in maybe 2005, we used to play it as a duet for accordion and guitar. Since then old lockdown days I’ve been teaching myself the mandolin, really a perfect instrument for travel!
If you want to hear me play this one live I’ll be performing it with @gauchojazz tomorrow (Sunday) May 17th at @brendasfrenchsf 5pm-8pm! Craig Ventresco and myself on guitars, ukes and mandolin and Ari Munkres on bass!
Well, like all things, my Dave Ricketts “Poor Decisions” tour has come to a close. It was only gonna be $100 less to fly than it was to get a sleeper car on the train so I went for it. One last adventure before returning to my home in San Francisco! I play tomorrow, Sunday, May 17th noon-2pm at @arbor_sf , followed by a concert with @jimmytouzel at a senior center and then I join @gauchojazz back at the legendary @brendasfrenchsf 5pm-8pm!
I’d like to thank:

For having me out to play!
Incredible to see so many old friends and to make new ones and new memories in four different states across over three thousand miles.
Most of all it was great to see my home town of Catonsville, Md. where all my hopes of being a musician began.
When I was back in Baltimore/Catonsville a couple weeks ago, I stopped to make a small memorial to my good friend @robreich . Yesterday was the anniversary of his passing, not a day goes by that I don’t think of him or hear something in my playing that was inspired by years of working along side such a gentle genius. 🎶♥️🌻
@gauchojazz will be playing at a new time tonight at @decodancesf , 8:30pm-10:30pm! I am still out of town but the wonderful and charming Bill Reinhardt will be subbing for me, a grand time to be had by all 🎶💜
Tonight is my final gig of the seven gigs in ten days, “Pour Decisions” tour!
Last Stop:
Pour Decisions in Portland, Oregon!

Come hear what happens when the cats get in the dog house🎶 🐈⬛ ♥️
It is my pleasure to tell you all that Marcus Milius and I will be playing 12:30pm-2:30pm at @mcsorleysoldalehouse in NOHO today, May 8th, 2026! I’ve been been playing there since 2009 nearly every time I come to the city. There are few things as real in old New York than McSorley’s. It was around before the Gilded Age, it was around before the civil war, this bar is maybe even twenty years older than the oldest song I know (excepting Bach) and it’s been said that they’ve never even changed the furniture! So old it’s new, come in to town and hear our sound!
