I (Ben) formed this band in 2023 at a time when I had been feeling directionless and isolated- I had been going to music school for a couple years but hadn't really found friends or a community. That year I happened to meet Evan, Jimmy, Lola and Dexter who were all starting at UIC. When we started this band I was so happy to finally have a fun, uplifting group of musicians to be a part of, and a new musical purpose after too many years without one. We recorded this EP in January 2025 after playing together for a year. It was challenging to pick 5 songs since we had around 20 to choose from. We tried to pick a group of songs that would show our loud, noisy side just as much as our soft, dream pop side. Thanks to: @sethbeck_ and @ratfuture.wav for recording, mixing, and mastering us. @halfscratches for helping with artwork and creative inspiration. @bbranda20 for recording a killer tenor solo on Hollow. @candlepin_records for helping us with releasing, promotion, and making tapes. We were lucky enough to shoot a live session with @melaina_kol when they were in town for @juliaswarrecs fest earlier this year. This one was truly special. We are beyond excited to share with you our new band, Edlear. (@edlear420 ) “Formed after a chance encounter in Sept. 2023, Edlear is a band heavily influenced by by slowcore/ adjacent genres, weed, and mental unrest. Their debut singles, Dishes/The Lottery, move circuitously - never fully presenting themselves, forever dancing somewhere in the peripheral. Not quite spinners, not quite stoned, the music moves along at a workmanlike stumble. Always teetering on that precious edge of fuzzed out bliss and a crumbling internal monologue. The songs manage to pull you in with their lush distortions and sneak in the gut punches of a life squandered. The communal experience of losing the lottery becomes a solitary albatross and a quiet life of responsibility its sullen counterpart. There is loss in everything, even in not getting fucked up. Edlear consists of Jacob Collings, Matt Short, Jake Morse, and KC Keith. The debut release of Dishes/ The Lottery is a collaborative cassette release recorded, mixed, and mastered by Seth Beck at Ray Future (Chicago) being released by Flesh & Bone Records and Pleasure Tapes (Portland). The limited copies available via Pleasure Tapes contain pressed baby’s breath.
