Join us in celebrating the book release of Ua a‘o ‘ia ‘o ia e ia 우아 아오 이아 오 이아 에 이아 with its producers and characters featured in the book.
This multilingual volume of over 550 pages is written as concrete poetry, with a non-hierarchical design between image and text, events and documents, performers and viewers.
The book depicts stories and storytellers within the channel between the Korean Peninsula and the Hawaiʻi archipelago, he pilina that began in 1903. The book was published on the occasion of the exhibition at SeMA (2024–2025). Sung Hwan Kim will read his English translation of the preface and table of contents, followed by a conversation with Drew Kahuʻāina Broderick, Sung Hwan Kim, David Michael DiGregorio, and other characters in the book, discussing storytelling and filmmaking, and their relationship to history and its recording.
