From concrete warehouses to a life-sciences destination, Kilroy Oyster Point reimagines what a biotech campus can be. Once an overlooked stretch along San Francisco Bay, the 50-acre site has been transformed into a multi-building hub designed to attract top-tier tenants—and create a sense of place beyond the lab.
For phase two, Rapt Studio shaped more than just interiors, designing 48,400 square feet of amenities, including lobbies, fitness and conference centers, and a food hall. The goal was to elevate the full campus experience.
“How do you shape the experience of inhabiting the campus?” asks creative director August Petersen. The answer unfolds in spaces that prioritize connection, movement, and a revitalized waterfront setting.

Many architects and designers involve first-time clients in projects to educate them about the process and other basics. But when multidisciplinary practice Rapt Studio was hired by Macquarie Group—a global financial services firm with substantial investments in real estate development—to renovate its new office in a landmarked 1964 Philadelphia building by the distinguished Italian-American architect Pietro Belluschi, designer and client were already on the same page.
