CURRENT RAPHAEL BRUNK HUMAN DIFFUSION JANUARY 23 – FEBRUARY 21, 2026 @raphaelbrunk GALERIE DROSTE DÜSSELDORF BIRKENSTRASSE 104 40233 DÜSSELDORF THU - FRI 2 - 6 PM SAT 1 - 4 PM Thank you everyone for joining the opening on Friday! We had such a great night! The Human Diffusion exhibition explores the question of what happens to images when they are not created by humans but by artificial intelligence – and how humans can nevertheless become part of this process again. The starting point for the works are images created using so-called diffusion models. These AI systems do not generate images by depicting reality, but by calculating probable image forms step by step from random noise. The image emerges slowly, in many small approximations. It is not a fixed result, but the outcome of constant comparison and correction. Raphael Brunk adopts this logic, but transfers it to an analog, physical process. The images generated by AI are not printed or directly transferred. Instead, they serve merely as a template. Each motif is painted entirely by hand on faux fur, but not copied, rather remembered, interpreted, and inevitably altered. The material used plays a central role in this process. The faux fur resists control: it swallows details, blurs contours, and makes precise reproduction impossible. Where AI aims for sharpness, clarity, and perfection, the material forces blurring, delay, and loss. The fur acts as an analog counterpart to digital noise—but it is unpredictable and cannot be reproduced. Human Diffusion marks the artist's third solo exhibition at Galerie Droste and also opens a new series of works. Furthermore Raphael Brunks' first publication, entitled Digital Imaging, will be released at the exhibition's closing event on February 21, 2026, from 1 to 4 pm at Galerie Droste Düsseldorf. We hope to see you there. #raphaelbrunk #galeriedroste #opening #contemporaryart #digitalart #humandiffusion #digitalimaging #bookrelease

10 YEARS RAPHAEL BRUNK - DIGITAL IMAGING @raphaelbrunk Ten years ago, as very young gallery owners, we were on our first tour at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf and saw Raphael Brunk standing in the class of Andreas Gursky, very well prepared, next to his work from his Captures series at the time. We were immediately impressed by his work, but also by his open and professional manner. In November 2016, he took part in the first group exhibition at our newly opened gallery in Wuppertal, the second exhibition under the gallery name Droste (see us babies in the picture). Who was there?😊 We also opened our Düsseldorf premises with a solo exhibition of his work in 2021 (see last slide). Who would have thought that exactly ten years later, we would be opening his fourth solo exhibition with us and even publishing his first book? We have experienced so much together, discussed so much, suffered, laughed, and worked together. We are very proud of this collaboration and Raphael's career, which still has so much in store for the future. Above all, with his digital background, he has always occupied a special position in a painting program like ours, one that is now finally gaining momentum as digital and AI works in art are no longer on the fringes of the visual arts but have arrived at the center. Buy the signed book in our online shop and immerse yourself in the world of Raphael Brunk. Over 200 pages, the book covers all his series from recent years, with great accompanying texts. Many thanks to Johanna Flöter @johannafloeter and Cyrill Kuhlmann @copestudio for the great design, to Kerber Verlag @kerberverlag for the great collaboration, and to all the participating authors who make the book a great overall work. #raphaelbrunk #digitalimaging #bookrelease #digitalartists #galeriedroste #exhibitions

INVITATION RAPHAEL BRUNK HUMAN DIFFUSION @raphaelbrunk BOOK RELEASE & FINISSAGE SATURDAY FEBRUARY 21, 2026 1 – 4 PM GALERIE DROSTE DÜSSELDORF BIRKENSTRASSE 104 40233 DÜSSELDORF We cordially invite you to the finissage of Raphael Brunks' exhibition HUMAN DIFFUSION, which also marks the book release of his first publication DIGITAL IMAGING, in our Düsseldorf premises this Saturday from 1 – 4 pm. This publication entitled Digital Imaging is the first comprehensive document of the work of Raphael Brunk, who completed his studies as a master student under Andreas Gursky at the Düsseldorf Art Academy—a book that not only brings together the most important series of the past ten years, but also reveals the development of an artist who is consistently working on a new form of digital image production. The series of works reproduced here show how he transforms digital editing processes into a painterly instrument and uses the algorithm not as a technical aid but as an active co-author. The unpredictability that arises from this interplay becomes the driving force behind an imagery that seems both familiar and alien. What makes this book special is the insight it provides into Brunk's ongoing search for a concept of image that goes beyond the classic categories of photography, painting, and media art. The combination of illustrations, art-historical texts, and previously unpublished background material allows a glimpse behind the surface: at the creative processes, conceptual considerations, and aesthetic logic of his series. The publication thus forms a central reference work for an oeuvre that asserts its own voice in the digital age. In addition to the book release, the publication is also available on the Galerie Droste website shop in a signed version and a limited edition, as well as from Kerber Verlag and other bookshops.
