HUGE NEWS: The National Basketball Association (NBA) has partnered with ASB GlassFloor and GlassCourt Technology for the 2024 All Star Weekend in Indianapolis. During the Ruffles Celebrity Game and State Farm All Star Saturday Night the digital court will enable dynamic, customised court designs tailored to each event during the night. It will feature spectacular reveals and animations, live tracked entertainers and hosts as well as fully interactive game moments.

Exactly 7 years ago, when I was at @unitedvisualartists as Artisan we delivered one of the most ambitious projects in collaboration with @akqa for @nikebasketball . A fully interactive LED court that featured as the coaching tool for the late Kobe Bryant and LeBron James in the final stages of the Nike Rise 2015 competition in China. This court was the first fully interactive LED court in the world, able to track up to 30 players on the court simultaneously, capture their statistics and progression, and play events in real time as they happened. Coaches could design drills, control the court and track player progress via a custom iPad app. It was a wild ride, but a very satisfying end result that still to this day has not been bested I believe. Our new (ad)venture kicked off last week. Together with ASB GlassFloor we unveiled the GlassCourt OS sports ecosystem at the FIBA U19 Women’s World Cup. The first basketball final ever played on glass, there were a lot of questions leading up to the event. Would the players like it? What would be the right balance in terms of animations? What if a section of LED would fail? How would it render on broadcast? Putting it all together sure included some sweaty moments, but I don’t think it could’ve gone any better. The growing enthusiasm buzzing all around as the glass floor and system continued to prove itself over the course of the event was infectious and I think everyone is excited about what’s next. Personal highlights include the ASB F1 pitstop crew, the inspiring words of FIBA Secretary General Andreas Zagklis unveiling the court, and the general excitement around our innovation demo. And of course, the interactive mop. 🧹 Huge thanks to the FIBA team, the ASB team lead by Christof Babinsky, the Go4Gold crew, and of course our own wonderful OS band. Today, @technische_hochschule_owl visited @bmwpark BMW Park at @fcbayernbasketball . Our students tested animations and moving image sequences directly on the LED glass floor by @asbglassfloor As part of the Graphic Design course with Paul Steinmann, students from @medienproduktion_thowl (Faculty of Media and Culture, OWL University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Detmold) developed content specifically for this high-tech playing surface and tested it on-site in the arena. Thanks to @rapatski Tiemen Rapati, Inga-Målin Strohmeier, Emile (ASB GlassFloor), and Jannis from the FC Bayern Munich Basketball team for the collaboration and support! Yesterday premiered SOL at the @bimhuis - an artistic collaboration between @benwendel , @rubenvanleer , @alice_the_malice , @lukastimulak , @wes_broersen and me, fusing sound, light and movement in a 80 minute performance.
