Legendary support from everyone at the marathon - I definitely gained a couple extra mins thanks to the constant cheering of my name. Watching back the Gold Coast live stream was one of funniest things I’ve ever seen. You lot completely took over, with endless shouts along the lines of “show us the ginger fella or we riot” 😂
Judging by the 1000s of comments from people saying they’re now going out to buy a pair of Brooks trainers, I reckon Brooks have made their money back already on this deal! Well played 👏

I’m still feeling the aftereffects of the Yamagata Ekiden now… I had no choice though but to slog out my first long run of the year, to officially mark my return to “proper training”!
No week is complete without a 40k minimum. It’s hopefully not long until those overdistance marathon runs return too 💯

Entered a new realm of pain during this race… can’t wait to do it all over again next year! 🇯🇵
Was STARTING this leg of the Yamagata Ekiden with crippling fatigue in pretty much every muscle in my entire body… so you can imagine how things felt by the end 💀
⚰️ The flat-out 20k from the day before yesterday had finished me right off but had to choice but to bury myself for the team. Ekidens really are the undisputed greatest events in running. Nothing else comes close to this level of non-stop action and camaraderie! 🎽

🥈 We trailed the leaders by 3 minutes at the end of Day 1 and after a ferocious battle on Day 2, we’ve slipped back a few more seconds ⏱️

With the pressure of the longest leg of the race and a severe lack of pavement pounding over recent months, I wasn’t exactly confident coming in… But I managed to surprise myself by pulling this one out the bag and massively out-performanced what I thought was possible with my current shape. Things are looking good for the rebuild 📈
A great shift from the whole Nanyo Higashi Okitama team to take 2nd place overall on Day 1.
👊Bring on Days 2 & 3 where it’s still all to play for!

The highlight was being asked by an event reporter why there were suddenly 1000s of random English comments on the race live stream… it seems this niche Japanese local event has gone global thanks to the RTJ Army who never fail to deliver 🫡
