I waited until today to post this. I’m hesitant and somewhat ashamed yet I feel called to do so. The last day of March. The Endometriosis Awareness Month. I’ve struggled my whole life fighting something that has no cure. Even doctors and professors still don’t really understand the sickness.
In 2011 I had a huge surgery removing bilateral ovarian endometriosis cyst that weighs half a kilo out of my body. The very unfortunate event happened after it blows up inside making the thick brown lesion to stick to the intestines and neighboring part. Causing emergency surgery taking longer than it should. And voila at the end it leaves a whole lower belly scar for me. It’s both painful physically and emotionally.
Does it stop there? No. It starts when my period starts as an 11 yo kid. I often skip school as the pain is very unbearable causing me to faint of the severe stomach pain. After the surgery I often do my own research go to multiple doctors trying to find cause and solution to which of course it’s always a dead end. Best they can do is put me on birth control pills and pain killers to alleviate the symptoms. They never even offer me a hormonal replacement therapy. I only just discover it this year that it can be an option.
Not only the possibility of infertility haunts me. The symptoms is worsen now that I’m at the age of peri menopause. Drastic hormonal fluctuations causing inflammation, bloating, anxiety, hot flashes, brain fog and fatigue. Checked off all that. I think this isn’t talked about enough as it’s considered taboo or it’s simply under studied. Never dismiss and shrug it off ladies. If it’s too much then there is something wrong. You’re not exaggerating you know your body best. And for men here’s something new for you to learn. Let’s be gentle and be more aware of the conditions.
Hope each everyone of you will never go through what I go through. I hope in the coming years we find cure and root cause of it. I hope the next generation of women will be free from the pain. Just exactly my thought whenever doing girls activities. Sometimes it takes a lot of effort and practice, as it is hard to admit at this day and age that women should just be women. Embracing their feminine energy.
