What an honor to act as Uke(practice attacker) for the great Kumu @ramsaytaum in the live demo portion of his presentation The Way of the Warrior Priest last night at @ofrendafest 🌺 I’ve had the privilege to connect with Kumu over the last 3 years at @libfestival in my role as Wisdom Keeper lead, where he’s been one of the esteemed elders to share wisdom at the festival. It’s such a full circle moment, as growing up I trained in the Hawaiian martial arts of Kempo & KaJuKenBo, earning my 2nd degree black belt & working 3 years as a senior instructor. 🥋Thank you @ninaktsz & @triballinkfoundation for inviting Kumu & @americafilm for the space & making it happen so quickly. Kumu Ramsay has several online offerings & retreats coming up, which I highly recommend & he may just be back in NYC sooner than we think. Follow for more… 👊🙏📿

Fear and faith aren’t opposites in the way we think. They’re built the same way. Both are a belief in something that doesn’t yet exist… something you don’t have proof of… something you’re choosing to trust. The only difference is what you’re placing your belief in. In this conversation, @ramsaytaum breaks this down in a way that reframes how we think about fear, faith, and what it means to truly trust yourself and the path you’re on. This is just one moment from a much deeper dialogue on connection, courage, and returning to source. Full episode is live now on SoulPodcast ⭐️

In a time where we’ve been trained to operate from “me,” indigenous wisdom keeper Kumu Ramsey reminds us what it actually looks like to return to “we.” Aloha is not a greeting. It’s a reciprocity agreement. It’s saying “your air is my air” and meaning it. This conversation goes deep into the real mechanics of ho’oponopono, why there are only two fears running your life, and what happens when we remember that faith and fear are the same thing pointed in different directions. A lot of people know aloha as a greeting. But that’s not really what it is. In this conversation with Crystal on the @soulpod_app , we talk about aloha as a way of being—a recognition that your breath and mine are connected. When you understand that, responsibility naturally follows. How we treat each other, how we care for the ʻāina, it all matters. We also get into how easy it is to fall into separation—into “me,” into scarcity, into transaction. And how Indigenous ways remind us to come back to relationship, to reciprocity, to enough. We touch on ho‘oponopono too, beyond what’s been simplified—coming back into alignment, taking responsibility, restoring balance. If it resonates, you can listen to the full conversation. There was a time in Hawaiʻi when speaking ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi was not allowed—not in schools, not in public, and sometimes not even in our own homes. So our kūpuna carried it quietly, protecting the language, the ʻike, and the ʻike kūpuna in ways that would not be taken. What was meant to disappear did not. It was held, it was remembered, and it lives on. Today, many of us are returning—back to ʻōlelo, back to ʻike, back to aloha—reclaiming what has always been ours. This conversation speaks to that journey, and the kuleana we each carry moving forward. If you feel called, I invite you to listen to the Inter Faith Podcast by @byuradio . Lua is often misunderstood when it is separated from the rest of our practices. In our tradition, the warrior was never just a warrior. They were also the one who could tend the land. Who could restore balance. Who understood the weight of their actions. To know how to break… you must also know how to heal. To go to war… you must also know how to replenish life. Otherwise, what you carry becomes imbalance. Lua is not about domination. It is about responsibility. About knowing when to step forward and when to step back. What you see here is only a small window into something much deeper; held within lineage, practice, and protocol. Approach with respect. Learn with humility. . . . . #Lua #Hawaii #Hawaiian #MartialArt #RamsayTaum

Ho‘oponopono by definition can be translated “to make right” and "put into proper order." But it is much much more than that. It is a way of restoring right relationship — within ourselves, with one another, and with the larger web of life that sustains us. It is a process of alignment. Traditionally practiced within ʻohana (family units), hoʻoponopono was used to restore balance and harmony when dis-ease or disorder surfaced in the family or community. A respected elder or practitioner would be sought to help make things pono again; restore alignment. Through honest conversation, accountability, forgiveness, and release, harmony could be restored so the family could move forward together in balance. The process of ho‘oponopono I share today is rooted in those traditional understandings of relationship, responsibility, and returning to pono as it was inspired and taught to me by Kahuna Laʻaau Lapaʻau Aunty Morrnah Nalamaku Simeona. What is shared here is only a small glimpse into a practice that carries much greater depth. If you feel called to explore these teachings more deeply, I’ll be guiding The Way of the Warrior Priest Retreat in Phoenix, Arizona • April 3–5, where we’ll spend time exploring these principles and how they can be lived in our daily lives. One of the misunderstandings about forgiveness is that people think it releases the other person from their responsibility. That’s not what Ho‘oponopono does. Their kuleana to make things right is still theirs. Ho‘oponopono releases you. Because when we hold on to anger or resentment, we end up carrying that person everywhere we go… into our thoughts, into our relationships, into the quiet moments of our lives.
