Don’t underestimate the beauty of the Lakes in winter ☃️
Yes, we have our fair share of grey days, but when it’s cold and crisp it really is spectacular! And the rest of the time there are always cosy cafes and pubs to warm up in ☕️
It was honestly hard to pick just 8 spots to visit in winter but I’d say these are some of the spots we visit again and again with our young children (age 4 and 1).
I hope this inspires a winter visit to the Lakes ❄️

Winter in the Lakes so far (in the wrong orientation for Instagram 😅) 🏔️
Winter can definitely feel long, dark and wet but looking back at these photos is a reminder that there’s nothing like the magic of winter light ✨ #familyadventure #lakedistrict #hikingwithkids
✨🎄 Winter at Sizergh 🎄✨
If you live in the Lakes or are visiting anytime over December, make sure you book tickets for Winter at Sizergh! The most beautiful light display and visit to the house all decorated for Christmas. Both our little ones (age 4 and 10 months) loved it and we were there around 3 hours in total watching the lights, visiting the house, drinking hot chocolate, doing Christmas crafting and ending with a Christmas dinner.
Only £4 for National Trust members and free for under 5s. You can just show up but it’s best to book tickets online 🙏
At least when it stops raining that is 😂😂
I actually love hiking in autumn! It’s my favourite time to be outside in the hills on those cool, crisp days when the colours are changing. Some of my favourite places we’ve hiked in autumn:
🍂 Ben Ledi, Loch Lomond & the Trossachs
🍂 Ben Eighe, Wester Ross
🍂 Lochnagar, Cairngorms
🍂 Win Hill, Peak District
🍂 Easedale Tarn, Lake District
🍂 Lustleigh Cleave, Dartmoor
🍂 Appletreewick to Troller’s Gill, Yorkshire Dales
🍂 Beacons Circuit, Brecon Beacons
All hikes featured in our online guides @rambleguides 🥾
