I was first introduced to the music of Kristin Hersh through my friend Michael Stipe in the 90âs at a difficult time in my life. Her song âYour Ghostâ and the whole album Hips and Makers helped me through⌠cut to the Dandy Warhols covering that very song on @launchleft which then led to she and I connecting so many years later. And then, even better, she came on the podcast and launched one of her sons Wallace False- we had so much fun on that episode!! Adding to the awesomeness still, a couple months ago, out of the blue, she texted to ask if my band @escapeartistlovers would consider supporting Throwing Muses LA show at the Teragram. I adjusted travel plans to be sure I could say YES. What an incredible full circle experience. To share the stage with her and TM is a dream for me and I hope if youâre in LA youâll come out to witness the collective, creative expression of joy as an act of resistance đď¸đžđś
Escape Artist Lovers supports Throwing Muses on 4/21 - we go on at 8pm.

Click our link in bio for another installment of Another Jane Pratt Thing contributor Rain Phoenixâs unconventional advice column. One thing that I think makes Rain so good at giving relationship advice is her extraordinary life experience. Another is her complete lack of judgment. Thereâs not anything you could ask her that she would not carefully look at strictly in terms of how best to help you with it.
Send me your questions for a future column! Anonymity is fine here, so you can fully go for it in your questions without worrying about repercussions from the people youâre writing about. (I donât care about anonymity myself because my proverbial cats are already all out of the bag, with multiple proverbial generations of kittens). If you like the anonymous route, send me your questions to [email protected] to pass along to Rain.

My mom wrote and shared this today and it just feels vital that I do too. I think every word rings true.đđź âLately, I find myself in tears. Not because I have given up hope, but because I havenât. The tears come when I see suffering.
And they come when I see people marching peacefully.
They come when I witness cruelty.
And they come when I witness courage
I am not crying because the world is broken.
I am crying because I still love it. A broken heart, I have learned, is not weakness. It is an opening. It reminds us that we still belong to one another.
I watch what is happening across our world â wars unfolding, neighborhood gunshots, governments tightening their grip, and people detained and displaced. The suffering is not abstract. It is human. And still, I believe there are no true âsidesâ on a round Earth. We are all standing on the same moving planet, breathing the same air. The lines we draw on maps do not change the deeper truth that we are connected.
I struggle when I hear fierce language about people crossing borders âwithout permission,â while at the same time bombs cross borders without permission. Boats enter the waters. Drones enter the skies. Homes are shattered. Children are displaced. If sovereignty matters, does it not matter everywhere? If safety matters, does it not matter for everyone?
This is not about taking sides. It is about taking responsibility. History shows us that when enough people choose dignity over domination, something shifts. A tipping point is reached. The tables turn â not toward revenge or power over one another â but toward the universal good.
We are not powerless. We are part of that equation. Every act of nonviolence matters. Every refusal to dehumanize matters. Every time we choose courage over fear, it matters.
This horror is human-made. So, too, can it be undone by humans.
I do not deny the pain of this moment.
But I refuse to give up on humanity.
There are no sides on a circle. Only us.â

Pam Hogg is a remarkable soul đď¸đ¤đď¸a being of unmatched beauty, creatively unabashed, brilliant, unapologetic, influential and authentic as they come. A true original- she put her stamp on the entire creative world. Her lust for life and voracity for art were infectious and I just wanted to be around her all the time to soak it up⌠When she approved of oneâs creative act it was really the highest compliment possible. Iâm really going to miss her. She had a way of centering all her friends when she was with them and thatâs a quality Iâve noticed only repeated in a few. I like to imagine her now with her fellow scottish bestie Angela McCluskey having a laugh and a glass of champagne on the universe. Thinking of her family and friends today with love.
Photo 1: the night Angela first introduced me to Ms Hogg. Pam was so irritated with me because I was taking photos of she and Angela and thought I might post without approval to which I suggested she trust me and then showed her this photo. She loved it so much after that I could do no wrong.
