This short film is about a young woman who’s not on letting other people stifle her because she doesn’t move the way they think a pregnant person should. But more than that, and this is at the core of everything I write, Colby is about the power of a moment of kindness.
My best friend died five years ago, and she leaves an oscillating void but it’s the type of thing that’s fleetingly, wholesomely filled by people willing to try to understand me in a particular moment or situation.
This character needed someone to let her talk about herself outside of the societal constraints of a pregnant body – shit was cathartic and just enjoyable. A random did that.
Being me, and I know bare of us are like this, I wish we had more for this project, I wanted more for it but there’s kindness in intrigue, and kindness isn’t typically an overt thing, it’s like the roots running underground, it’s silently indispensable, it’s a point of departure – and I get that from this, so I’m good. I got this from my crew. My g and producer @kareemadeshina embodies this. I’m gassed we got our first project together done. Thank you to @mathieuajan for believing in the idea and dropping us pzzz.
It’s screening at London Film Festival over the next couple weeks. Dates and times on the third slide. Link to details in @kareemadeshina ’s bio.
