Dear members and non-members, old friends and new faces @uks1921 has the pleasure of inviting you to join us at Keysersgate 1 on Friday 1st May for breakfast and a banner workshop. The gathering is intended as a forum for us to connect as colleagues and to create posters, signs, and banners together. This event is child-friendly! This year, @uks1921 mobilises under statements such as... «KUNSTNERNE VIL HA FAGFELLEVURDERTE STIPENDER» Artists want peer-reviewed grants «Å GJENNVINNE SPRÅKET ER IKKE ET STUDIUM, MEN EN RETTIGHET» Reclaiming your language is not a study, but a right «AS UNEMPLOYABLE AS AN ARTIST» Equally the @uks1921 board encourages you to bring your own ideas to the table! Gather with us and lets bring attention to the challenges facing artists as workers and citizens together. Keysersgate 1 is open from 10:30, with oat porridge, coffee, tea, fruit and snacks. Around 12:00 we will walk to Youngstorget together for the official demonstration. @uks1921 has will provide placards, cardboard for signs, markers, pencils and other drawing material. Nei takk til artwashing av apartheid, folkemord og sionisme! ❌ Fotografiskas styreleder og majoritetseier, tyske Yoram Roth, sponser Taglit Birthright Israel, en organisasjon som gir gratis guidede turer for unge jødiske mennesker til Israel/okkupert Palestina, hvor Palestina ikke «finnes» eller formidles. Turene er en del av Israels forsøk på å indoktrinere unge mennesker i sitt kolonialistiske prosjekt, innpakket i euforiske møter med IDF og løgner om Israels LHBTQ+-rettigheter og «frie» presse. Oslos kunstnere ønsker ikke Fotografiska til byen. Det gjør ikke vi heller. Oslos kunstliv trenger mer solidaritet med Palestina, ikke mer sionisme! Møller eiendom, som har inngått samarbeidet med Fotografiska, unnskylder seg med at Roth har ansatt en palestinsk direktør i Berlin og at de to har uttrykt fred og forsoning i fellesskap. Sistnevnte viser til en post på LinkedIN, hvor det ikke står noe som helst om hvem som bedriver okkupasjon og folkemord på hvem. Innlegget ble delt i oktober 2023 og vi tolker det først og fremst som en respons på Hamas’ handlinger i Israel, framfor et reelt forsøk på forsoning mellom en okkupant og dem som forsøkes undertrykket og fordrevet. Hvor legitim er uansett en slik uttalelse og ansettelsen av en mann med palestinsk bakgrunn, når man uansett er med på å finansiere okkupasjonen gjennom Birthright? Ragnhild Aamås @ragnaam is a great powerhouse for the art scene in Norway. She has an active practice as an artist, works as author / art critic AND she was recently selected as President of UKS Unge Kunstneres Samfund / Young Artists' Society @uks1921 UKS is Norways oldest national artist union, securing artists rights, and they celebrated turning 100 in 2021. Artist statement by Aamås: "In my work you’ll see sculpture, text, collage and sound. I have established a way of working and a body of work that particularly looks at the effects of language and the capture of the writing system. I base myself on poor, commercial and found materials. Since I developed «Echo Cleans the Mirror Sore» for Kunsthall Stavanger over their archive in 2015, I have worked with institutional archives on several occasions. Latest in a series of sonic microessays for Kunstnerforbundet in 2023. I’m attracted to an investigative form that branches into and interweaves written and visual materials. Rather than using the default in the order we live under – the individual – I look to the ‘divid’, and let it stand for a dismembered kind of negative subject that searches for cracks to worry in. I’m currently learning more about the work of Italian artist Anne-Marie Sauzeau-Boetti, and Norwegian Kristina Bræin. In addition to solo work, I’m part of the artist group infopsin, with Ayat Tuleubek, Ignas Krunglevicius og Istvan Virag. During 2014-2021 I was co-directing the artist run space @podium_oslo I also write about art for moneys.
