There is anger and despair everywhere, as there is meant to be in a time like this. These are very important and powerful reactions creating change. I think there is also a need for a reminder of love. That’s where this anger comes from- from seeing pain and abuse inflicted on those we love. Thinking about immigrant communities and the beauty they bring with them, my hands got to work. I made this print reflecting on the truth that immigrants are the heart and soul of this country. 100% of profits from these prints will be donated to @raicestexas They are linked in my bio if you would like to support. *FRAME NOT INCLUDED 🦋🫀💛

“In the Thick of It” series It Rains Salt (top) She Remembers Her Bones (left) Catching Yellow (right) I was doing an exercise at work where I water colored a background and then did blind contour line drawings of horses. They ended up with a face and energy of vulnerability and longing. I went back to poems I had written and picked out specific lines/words that matched these horses and those became the titles. Then I engraved these images onto wood and stained them. Available tonight Saturday Sept. 27th at @propagandahqatx Art under $100 hosted by @tvheadatx and @textualseduction

Windows to Texas series I was away from Texas for four months and the thing I missed most of all was the sky and the sun. The gravity of the longing was honestly more than I had prepared for. It was fundamental, engrained in my being. These are an ode to that feeling. The longing, the vastness, the peace. I will always find home in these skies. All of these paintings are real skies I’ve seen in Texas over the years. The plants are the ones I see on my morning runs in my neighborhood. Each piece has the location and date of that particular sky written on the back. All six of these works will be available for purchase tomorrow Saturday, 27th from 6-10pm at @propagandahqatx for the Art Under $100 show put on by @tvheadatx and @textualseduction

I named this piece “Sundog” as a sort of afterthought in all honesty. This is a rework of an older piece I wasn’t too happy with. I added a light white wash to make the background more cohesive and then peppered my little flower girls along the border. In the midst of their dance I gave them a sun. That’s when the yellow came. Struggling to come up with a name, “Sundog” came so suddenly it was as if the flower girls had shouted it to me all at once. I was just on a trip to Alaska, spending many many hours on a train with no wifi or service. I have always been comfortable in silence and entertained with my thoughts. However, after exactly 24 hours (although over 10 days) of running the same route back and forth I exhausted my imaginations and worries started to seep through the cracks coming up on my arrival back home. It was then that the phenomenon in the second photo occurred. A man on the train called it a Sundog and my curiosity was ignited. After I got off the train, deeply enamored, I went to search the meanings of a Sundog according to many peoples over many times and saw the repeated theme of ancestors, spiritual guides, and kind spirits. This is exactly how I see my flower girls- the representation of the sundog in this image. It was almost if the sundog had manifested itself again without any of my conscious doing. And I am deeply put at peace once again with its reappearance. Thank you for reading my nonsensical ramblings :) if you did I hope you know I find these things exceptionally vulnerable and hope you have met this thought experiment with presence, curiosity, and compassion. However, of course you did, as you probably could not read this much without it. Thank you again.

Our place. May 3rd 2025. The dream behind this event was community, art, and connection. And it could not have been more fully realized. I am absolutely blown away by the vibrant energy and abounding generosity of the art community here. This gathering was meant to create a space for human connection through art. Which was only made possible through the right conditions: kind souls, openness to life, desire for connection, authenticity, and vulnerability. So many small miracles and serendipitous moments unfolded- many of which I didn’t even see. People shared their art for the first time. Songs were sung that had never been heard before. Friendships emerged. Art was made. A community canvas appeared seemingly out of thin air. There was dancing, hugging, hula hooping, flowing, loving, sharing, and simply being. Thank you to everyone who came to Our Place- whether you shared your work, came to support your friends and community, laughed, danced, or just opened your heart. You made it OUR place.
