hellooo i have been putting off making a wrap-up post just because i got took no good documentation of my own, but i'm so, so pleased by everyone that worked and turned out for our 4/9 fundraiser cabaret for CASA! we made $2,391.20 and figured out how to split all the event costs between us organizers so that we could send We Are CASA the full proceeds! huge thanks to everyone - to @georgia.beatty and @mariacgoodson for co-organizing it all, to @dreambabyjb for hosting, for @jabroni_chaperone for figuring out drinks with @talesofthebrad , and to @the_church_grim and @possumboots for working door, and for Tristan for running sound. To our performers- @dan_klingsberg and Jonathan Vocke for incredible tunes (we were dancing in the back of the hall), to @sylviajonesjonesjonesjones for high wit and wisdom and turn of phrase, for Valeska Populoh, Marian McLaughlin, and @solarbellybrain for reminding us of the interconnectedness of all things, to @daouredio for sublime healing frequencies, to @apluspluscomedy for bringing the laughs we all need, and to @albertbagman for bringing the delicious freak factor (affectionate). i'm still so smitten with our whole community, with everyone that pitched in or donated- (special shoutout to @peabodyheightsbrewery /@charmcitymead and to @baltspiritsco for donating drinks, and to everyone that gave to the raffle!)- and thanks to @2640space for hosting. appreciate y'all! if anyone got good photos or vids send them to me and I'll be glad to share- of the above the lovely first photo is Georgia's handiwork, and the photos after are by Kevin and Maria (wobbly vids mine, alas). thanks and fuck ice.

don't think I'd ever shared the dc themed renn fest shield my nephew talked me into painting! I'd tried to keep it secret from the fam while i was working on it. anyhow as a reminder DC's population is larger than Vermont's or Wyoming's and it deserves statehood. thank you @jilliankl82 for letting me give your child weapons.

I'm stoked to have an opportunity to adapt and reprise my early 2020 puppet show from See Also, Submersive Productions' Into the Stacks show at the Peabody Library dedicated in part to lifting up hidden threads of history, especially the oft-downplayed threads of women and folks that exist in opposition to gender norms.  My piece was heavily inspired by revolutionary France era aeronaut Sophie Blanchard (ask me for my slideshow sometime and I'll talk your ear off!) I'll be bringing her back to life Nov. 30 for the Submersive You Are Here Gala @ Creative Alliance, which will feature a smorgasboard of bits and pieces from Submersive's 10 year history.  Come join! Find out with me whether I'll carry the whole show in my teeth again or if I'll have worked out another plan by then! tbh if there's one thing I've improved at since 2020 it's clenching my teeth. also ps I'm slowly trying to find alternatives to this app and others- am posting most all my stories to signal! so connect with me there if you wanna.

Beyond honored to be part of @submersivellc 's latest show at @nationalaquarium , in partnership with the Johnsen Laboratory. So proud of the shadow puppetry team- both the folks that puppeteered (@natanyerz @rachelreckless @andreaclayville @creuther_art ) and the super insteumental folks that helped build the md rainfall show ( @mikajnakano ) and the mutualism show ( Ursula! On top of *everything* else in the show) plus Glenn for filming and editing the whalefall show. Some photos borrowed from @rock.wren (1), Pluto (2-4), and @deliriumdog (18-19) with thanks!

We're throwing a show celebrating our dear friend Eric Church, who passed on Jan. 2 of this year- please join! Eric loved ambitious solutions to artistic prompts, so yes in his honor we are totally holding not just a memorial service at 2pm but also at 6pm a celebratory show featuring a bunch of his favorite bands PLUS we got a bunch of the writers/cast/crew/band of his hit 2019 space wrestling rock opera Space Kumite back together to put on a lil FUNeral sequel. Please feel very invited to join us if even if you didn't know Eric (or if you didn't see Space Kumite): he'd have been delighted to have more folks enjoy the arts he loved so much. ticket link in bio!

I've known Eric going back at least a decade, and I can't remember how many late nights we spent working together and making things. He was clever and kind, persnickety and opinionated. He and Heather have been some of my favorite people for a while now, and they gave me my best bread recipe, introduced me to Time Team and Columbo and Julio Torres and clay casting and thermoplastic beads and plant dyes and eggplant preserves in olive oil, we spent nights cooking food together and planting seedlings and petting cats and and and... Eric... Eric could be relied on to make anything for any prompt I came to him with five times more complicated and ambitious than it needed to be, and even when suggesting he dial it back might have been the most practical choice I never wanted to, because the result was usually glorious and ridiculous and sublime and an excuse to spend many hours together. The magic well that gave farts instead of wishes when you threw coins in, the chair shaped like a wolf with an articulated jaw, the saint appolonia tooth plinko board, the eyeball flower arrangement whose individual flowers would turn to look at you... all quintessentially Eric.  What a legend. I'm ugly snotty crying just thinking of it all.  His chief joys, beyond overcomplicating things, were his wife- rock star bamf NASA organic geochemist Heather, with whom he was deservedly smitten and very proud, his two cats Catsius and Brisket, fine food, local music, fixing things, theater/larp stuff, good design, and travelling.  He passed on Thursday in a sudden and horrible reaction to the chemo treatment he'd just started for the colon cancer he'd just been diagnosed with, and while we all thought we had dark days ahead we thought we'd have so much more time to say goodbye at the very least. We are caught horribly off guard and Heather will need all the support we can muster in the months ahead.  I keep hearing the arch tone he would use when telling jokes in my head and I hope I do forever. Take care of each other. More info on how to support Heather etc. at /ypbt2x4n
