“My work explores communication technology through a lens of personal experience and anxiety. Prints, artist’s books and installations look at how information is delivered, accessed and perceived. My work in libraries has influenced materials and concepts; experiencing the evolving technology has been a foundation for projects and ideas. A love of reading prompts research about reading and the brain. Linoleum cuts of people reading look at the intimate nature of how we interact with media.”

There is one more spot in my Intro to Letterpress with Handset Type @kalaartinstitute , Saturdays May 2 & 9, 10-4, link in bio to sign up! For my latest artist’s book “Scenic” I used a new type here at Kala, “Metro”, for the poem. We have it in 12, 24, 30, and 36. (Thanks @shick.nick !) Well find the right type and size for your short poem, quotation or rant, set the type, and print it out on the Vandercook proof press here in the Kala studio. There is something especially satisfying in composing type one letter at a time.

I just got back from a wonderful and productive week @incahootsresidency ! I’m in the beginning stages of a new project, it was a great setting to move things forward. I started by carving a group of linoleum cuts. I’ve been going through family archives looking for stories of traveling by train. I imagine them walking through Portland’s Union Station and downtown, where I pass through decades later.
It was such a great week, enjoyable and inspiring to share the studio with @borman_fine_art and @jackiemeetswrld . I appreciate the studio, cute cottage, and conviviality provided by @in_cahoots_press , thank you so much Macy!
A fabulous party to celebrate @kalaartinstitute ! It was lovely to catch up with everyone. Now come back to spend time with each piece. I have too many favorites!
