We are thrilled to announce the QMA Artist Collective 2026 selection representing the new wave of artists shaping the future of art in Vienna ⁠⚡️ For the next nine months, we will represent 23 artists who moved to Vienna less than six years ago from the Global South or the CESEE region, each uniquely enriching the city’s artscape. Day Three/the last day of our QMA mini-residency in the most blissful place 🦋 The QMA Artist Collective is one of our yearly programs running since 2019. It supports artists new to Vienna to develop their career in this city. Selected artists will become part of a 8-month collective process, included in our freshly curated QMA Artist Database, invited to a Mini-Residency, and introduced to the city’s important art and culture actors - including artists, curators, and gallerists. Group artist consultations are back at @kunsthallewien and this time, we have a special guest: @frederikesperling 🤍 Join us on May 6th, at 4 PM to get guidance, tips, and connections for navigating the art scene in Vienna. Frederike Sperling is the artistic director at Kunstraum Niederoesterreich (@kunstraum_niederoesterreich ) in Vienna. In this role, she has worked on new commissions, performative exhibitions, as well as live and discursive events with artists and collectives including OMSK Social Club, Seba Calfuqueo, Tiona Nekkia McClodden, Deva Schubert, P. Staff, and Sophie Utikal. In the past, she was the head of programming at the art association das weisse haus and a curator at Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary (TBA21). From 2013 to 2015, she was involved curating at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam and the Melly Institute in Rotterdam. In addition to serving on juries and teaching, she regularly contributes to international art magazines and artistic publications. She studied art history and curating at Goldsmiths, University of London, and the University of Amsterdam. Her curatorial practice focuses on time-based media, addressing topics like corporeality and relationality from intersectional perspectives. In the context of her independent work, she has realized projects with Black Obsidian Sound System (B.O.S.S.), Danielle Brathwaite-Shirley, Jesse Darling, Raju Rage, Debby Friday, Caspar Heinemann, Evan Ifekoya, and Himali Singh Soin, among others. 🗓 MAY 6, 4 PM 📍 Kunsthalle Wien Museumsquartier (Museumsplatz 1, 1070 Vienna). Artist Consultations are back at @kunsthallewien 🩷 Join us on May 6th, 4PM to get guidance, tips, and connections for navigating the art scene in Vienna. This month’s special guest is @frederikesperling we will properly introduce Frederike soon! Justina Špeirokaitė is a mother, curator, and cultural organiser of Lithuanian cultural background, based in Vienna. Justina has a background in social work and cultural studies. She focuses on intercultural artistic collaboration and researches how transgenerational stories of secondary memory shape women’s everyday lives. In 2014, she co-founded the cultural platform Improper Walls. Since 2019, she has supported newly arrived artists in Vienna through the QMA initiative. Smaranda Krings is a cultural manager and curator with a focus on sustainable community building and transparent financial management. Since 2019, she has been active at QMA, promoting artists new to Vienna. In the past she’s been responsible for the financial management of the Althangrund Cultural Center, and in 2025 has been the deputy director of the WIENWOCHE festival. In 2020, she co-founded the music residency QMA On Stage with Mwita Mataro and is the manager of the musician Chovo (Sony Music/Jive Germany). 🗓 May 6, 4 PM 📍 Kunsthalle Wien Museumsquartier (Museumsplatz 1, 1070 Vienna).
