We look back on KOMM GUCKEN earlier this year – a solo piece that turns the act of looking itself into a choreographic movement.
👀 How do people look at one another?
Why do gazes shape our social fabric so profoundly? How do looks – spoken or unspoken – define our bodies, and what kind of expression emerges?
As a »response« to KONTROL, I questioned the unformed body. During rehearsals, I engaged with seven international choreographers, whose research on body images is rooted in different cultural contexts and critically explores contemporary laws of bodily representation.
I met each choreographer individually and invited them to look at my earlier solo KONTROL: Can we talk about the body you see?
Can we also talk about your bodies and the ghosts of your bodies?
Which body images exist, do not die, remain unresolved? Which ones change – and in whose eye?
In the form of a choreographic monologue, KOMM GUCKEN engages with the history of many bodies and speaks for artistic voices that see contemporary dance as a medium of appreciative encounter and observation.
