The creative industry has always been obsessed with, fascinated by, and drawn to culture. Commercial work can be empowering (?), celebratory (?), and extractive (?)— using all forms of culture to promote and sell everything from condoms to cars.
In recent years, an abundance of cultures otherwise kept outside corporate buildings have found their way into commercial promotion: skateboarding in fashion, queerness in beauty, Asian influence in food, art in AI.
In this edition of Questioning Creatives, we are questioning the relationship between culture and commercials.
Is the creative industry exploiting or empowering culture? Are there more than one answer?

Since 2023, Ada Ada Ada (she/they) has reviewed hundreds of funding applications for Snabslanten—Copenhagen’s Youth Culture Fund.
She’s seen the ones that get immediate yes.
And the ones that make committees pause.
What makes the difference?
Is it creativity?
Is it the budget breakdown?
Is it how you frame your impact?
Based on her own experience looking at hundreds of good, bad and in-between applications, Ada knows cultural organizing is about structure, budget reality, and making your case so clear that committees can’t say no.
On December 9, they’re walking you through the exercises that turn “maybe” into “yes.”

Pop quiz:
What do you think is the number one reason cultural event applications get rejected?
A. Bad idea
B. Weak budget
C. Something else entirely
Let’s open the discussion and try to figure it out together.
On December 9, Ada Ada Ada (she/they) is an algorithmic artist, speaker, and committee member at Copenhagen’s Youth Culture Fund Snabslanten since 2023.
She is breaking down what she actually sees when reviewing funding applications at Snabslanten.
She’s sat through hundreds.
The genius ideas with messy applications.
The safe concepts with bulletproof structure that got funded anyway.
Want to know what made the difference?
90 minutes. A series of practical exercises.

ABOUT QUESTIONING CREATIVES (?)
This workshop is part of Questioning Creatives (?), a non-profit creating space for the honest conversations our creative industry needs. We facilitate bold conversations that challenge the status quo and inspire critical thinking—helping us rethink how we design systems, solutions, and cultures that reflect the values and future we need.

So we’ve been thinking about portfolios a lot lately.
We keep coming back to the same questions:
Am I overthinking this?
Probably, but also... am I showing too much? or not enough?
Does this project even belong here?
How do I show I’m growing without including work that makes me cringe?
Is anyone else just... tired of looking at their own stuff?
Drop your thoughts in the comments or DMs.
The stuff that keeps you from updating it,
or publishing it,
or sending it out.
Sophie (Public Service) + Anne-Lise (Saxo)
might address some of them at the workshop: Finding your creative path - Portfolio reviews.
Honestly, asking the question out loud? That’s already a step forward.

For 10+ years, Alin has been building Kune - a festival where community > consumption - while working a job outside of the creative industry.
He’s dismantling the myth that real creatives go all-in or burn out trying.
On oct 29, he’s sharing:
→ How he balances multiple identities without losing himself
→ Building sustainable creative projects part-time
→ Why community makes creativity thrive (not hustle)
For everyone juggling day jobs + creative dreams, or wondering if your side project is valid - this one’s for you.
Spoiler: It is. And Alin is a living proof.

From classroom idea to award-winning startup.
🌱 Meet 𝐋𝐢𝐥𝐢 𝐃𝐫𝐞𝐲𝐞𝐫— 𝐜𝐨-𝐟𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐕𝐀𝐄𝐑 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐑𝐞:𝐰𝐚𝐢𝐫, leading the fight against fast fashion through upcycling activism.
Lili didn’t wait for the right time or perfect funding. She started with conviction: fashion doesn’t have to destroy the planet, and creativity can drive systemic change.

→ Movement proving circular fashion is possible
→ Workshops teaching others to rethink waste
On oct 29, she’s sharing the real journey:

👋 Meet Marie Wittrup Jensen (she/her)
Creative copywriter. Still very much figuring things out.
Marie spent years crafting campaigns in London’s advertising world—the kind of career many dream about. Then she paused and asked: What’s next for me?
Not because she failed or because she had it all planned out.
Now she’s embracing the uncertainty. Rewriting her own chapter.
𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐞’𝐬 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬:
🌱For emerging creatives: You don’t need permission to question the path you’re supposed to follow. Your doubts are data, not deficiency.
🪴For navigating professionals: Career pivots don’t require certainty. Clarity comes through exploration, not before it.
🌳For realigning leaders: Success can feel empty when misaligned. It’s never too late to rewrite your chapter.
On October 29, Marie shares what she’s learning in the messy middle—the doubts, the freedom, and what it takes to trust the process.
