THIRD AND FINAL DJ X POET DUO FOR ✨𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙦𝙪𝘼𝙍𝙏𝙚𝙧 ✨
AAKI & DANIELLE O’HALLORAN
AAKI
Honey Brown
They/Them
(Taranaki Iwi, Ngāpuhi, Ngāti Tūwharetoa)
AAKI comes from the word manaakitanga: hospitality, respect, generosity and care for others.
As AAKI, local takataapui creative Honey Brown conjures up vivid, swampy soundscapes that move the body and wairua. At times a wash of noise and karakia; at times a relentless thump of bass and pixelated synths.
Their sound is a mihi to the swampy environment that lies dormant under Ōtautahi, the place they call home - seamlessly interweaving ancient oro (vibrations) with a contagious kind of high-fashion futurism.
AAKI uses the decks as a tool to tap into something deeper - an opportunity to manaaki, connect and transform.
Danielle O’Halloran
(She/Her/ia)
(Sāmoan/Irish/English)
Danielle O’Halloran - performance poet & FIKA Writers co-founder / activator / curator. Ōtautahi born, of Samoa (Malie, Mulifanua) and Pākehā (Irish, English) roots.
You can find Danielle’s poems in collections like Rapture, an anthology of performance poetry from Aotearoa NZ and No Other Place to Stand, a local collection of climate change poetry. Recordings of her poems can be found on the Christchurch Art Gallery website or via Soundcloud and in the recently released compilation album by th’Orchard, Conversations on the Edges of Rooms with 12 Christchurch Pacific artists sharing original songs across a variety of genres and spoken word.

TOM PLUM & SOLOMONA DAVIS
Tom plum
they/them
(Ngāti Hako)
Rising from the swamplands of Ōtautahi and rooted in the marshes of Hauraki, tom plum (Ngāti Hako) is a dj and promoter seeking to build community through sound. After cutting their teeth in the queer club scene, their recent explorations have led them deep into the realms of downtempo—weaving ambient textures together with triphop, atmospheric breaks and hiko māori. Inspired by the movement and various forms of their awa, they will guide you on a journey through shifting soundscapes, building a world on the shores of a distant dream.
Solomona Davis
He/him
(Sāmoan/English/Irish)
Solomona works with words. He’s a singer-songwriter and poet, a teacher and advocate of te reo Māori, a comms advisor and a learner of his own Pacific heritage language, le gagana Sāmoa. Of Sāmoan, English and Irish heritage, he’s grown up in the tight-knit Ōtautahi arts scene and sees it as his home; a familiar face and a rising voice around the city’s various alt music and poetry gigs. He performs with his band as Mona Vasa (@monavasamonavasa ), conjuring a lyric-driven blend of indie folk, alt rock, baroque pop… And sometimes he MC’s events – like Queer Horizons’ last Matariki gig
