Sergio Chávez is a Cuban-born visual artist. He was born in Havana, Cuba in 1965 and has resided in Florida since 1999. He studied painting and sculpture in the Academy of Fine Arts of San Alejandro in Havana (Academia de Bellas Artes de San Alejandro), from 1984-1986. Earlier he had studied design and silkscreen printing in the National School for Applied Arts (Escuela Nacional de Artes Aplicadas) from 1983-1984. He has participated in art workshops directed by Antonis Eiriz and performances wuth Manuel Mendive. HIs recent personal exhibitions include: (Miami, FL) Desde esta Orilla, Galería Artefactus, in 2018; Más Allá de la inocencia, Miguel Rodez Art Projects in 2015; Habana Mia, Unzueta Gallery in 2012; (Paris, France) La Habana Naive, Galería Ars Atelier de Zoe Valdés in 2010-2011. He also participated in multiple collective exhibitions among them being, Artistas Pro Derechos Humanos, Cuban Art Club in 2017.
In efforts to nurture and give dedicated space to LGBTQ artists everywhere and furthering the bond and alliance between LGBT non-profits in South Florida, Unity Coalition|Coalición Unida (UC|CU) and the City of North Miami have created an exciting new opportunity for the community.

@GALVIN CENTER, curated and managed by UC|CU, to highlight local, national and international artists of Trans experience by featuring their works year round, free and open to the public.
The nearly 600sq ft gallery space boasts double height ceilings, an open floorplan, and plenty of space to create, explore, consider and appreciate art.
The Scott Galvin Cewnter in North Miami is open to all Monday through Friday, 10am-5pm.
