Queer Dance Group (QDG) -tanssiyhteisön järjestämien ryhmien tavoitteena on tarjota vertaistukea ja turvallisempi tila, jossa tutustua omaan liikkeeseen ja syventää kehotietoisuutta yhdessä. QDG järjestää ryhmiä kaikenikäisille queer ja/tai transihmisille. Ryhmät ovat syntyneet yhteisön tarpeista käsin. Toimintaa suunnittelevat ja sitä toteuttavat queer ja transtaiteilijat yhdessä osallistujien kanssa. Meiltä meille -periaate toteutuu Queer Dance Group:n toiminnan kaikilla tasoilla tuotannosta toteutukseen. . . . . . . Queer Dance Group (QDG) - dance community aims to provide peer support and a safer space to explore ones own movement and deepen body awareness together with peers. QDG hosts groups for queer and/or trans people of all ages. The groups have been created based on the needs of the community. The activities are planned and carried out by queer and trans artists in collaboration with the participants. Taustaa - Background Suomeksi kommenteissa 💬 QDG was founded by dance artist @eevitol (they) in 2022. QDG is a continuum to Tavis Dance Company, a contemporary dance group for people of all ages, co-founded in 2017 by Tolvanen and the @itasuomentanssinaluekeskus . After moving to Helsinki, Tolvanen wanted to create a dance community that they themselves belong to. Tolvanen founded a queer and trans dance community with a working grant from the @koneensaatio , and embedded it as part of the activities of @realityrescen in collaboration with the executive director, Katja Kirsi (she). @jan_loukas (they) joined immediately in the spring of 2022 to develop and lead the two small groups of the QDG. @pie_kaer (they) proposed a group for gender minority youth in spring 2023 and has since become part of the QDG artists’ team. @sophiawekesa (she/they) started in autumn 2024 to facilitate the Street Dances and Impro Group. Pave Aladin(they) facilitated the youth group in autumn 2023-spring 2024. QDG aims to create job opportunities for queer and trans artists. In the fall 2024 the groups were also led by @riikkalauri (she/they), @wruidk.askstacey (they) and @olentosi (they). Tolvanen has the primary resposibility of the Queer Dance Group’s activities and production. However, QDG is a result of a collective work together, with significant contributions from Loukas, Kär and Wekesa, and the specific expertise of each of them. Taiteilijaohjaajat - Artist Facilitator EEVI TOLVANEN (they/them) is a queer dance artist who works in different contexts of performance art. They work as a facilitator, choreographer and performer. In their artistic work, they are interested in pleasure, care and exploring power relations. ➖➖➖ JAN LOUKAS (they/them) is a nonbinary dance artist who works on the dance field in different positions; as a performer, maker and teacher. In their work and in their pedagogy, Loukas focuses especially on negotiating consent, recognizing one’s own and others’ boundaries and communicating them. ➖➖➖ PIE KÄR (they/them) is a nonbinary dancer and choreographer. In all their artistic work, they are particularly interested in questions of social sustainability. In recent years, Kär has been working on social choreography, thinking about interactions between people. ➖➖➖ SOPHIA WEKESA (she/they) is a dancer, DJ, performer and influencer in the cultural field. She has a degree in sociomedical science and facilitating groups is their specific expertise. Sophia has been dancing dancehall for more than 10 years and has also studied several other street dance styles along the way. Seniorit Ryhmässä keskitytään liikkumiseen nykytanssin ja improvisaation maailmoissa – keskiössä omaan kehoon ja sen tuottamaan liikkeeseen tutustuminen. Ryhmässä voi kokea yhteisiä tanssillisia hetkiä, liikkeen tutkimista ja keskustelua jakamalla siitä nousevia ajatuksia. Senioreiden tanssiryhmä kokoontuu keskiviikkoisin klo 15-16:30 Eskus - Esitystaiteen keskuksella. Ryhmää ohjaa Eevi Tolvanen. Ryhmä on osallistujille maksuton. Aiempaa tanssi- tai liikekokemusta ei tarvita, lähde siis rohkeasti mukaan! 🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷 Seniors The group focuses on movement in the worlds of contemporary dance and improvisation – with a focus on exploring your own body and the movement it produces. The group will experience shared dance moments, exploration of movement and discussion by sharing thoughts provoked by the exercises. The senior’s dance group meets on Wednesdays at 15-16:30 at Eskus - Performing Arts Centre. The group is led by Eevi Tolvanen and the gatherings are free of charge.
