Sophie Brain is a dancer and performance artist whose work exists primarily in nightlife spaces. She is part of performance collective Sue Veneers and has performed at festivals including Glastonbury, Gala and Milkshake. She also has a regular slot in The Box Soho’s late night cabaret show. Taking inspiration from her dance training background and her experience as a drag performer in queer London, Sophie’s work is layered with a camp sensibility and ruptures with pleasure found in the dirty punk material body, which lies at the heart of her work. Sophie will present Meet me in the dressing room, their new performance on Saturday evening Avoid the folk...who see the blood but not the energy form’ Taking cues from Diane diPrima’s Revolutionary Letters, Sophie’s performance challenges the body’s extremes to explore world building action and possibilities in an era of powerlessness. Combining movement and character based performance, the figures Sophie creates unleash female ‘hysteria’ through dirty and despicable acts.

FRIDAY the 13th – Martin O’Brien Fading Out of Dead Air (Transmissions for the Necropolis) (As part of A Collective Archive Programme) Durational performance | 6–9pm Ugly Duck, 49 Tanner Street, London, SE1 3PL Tickets: link in bio A scratchy sound of white noise emanates from a small radio, filling the dark room. A faint voice comes through. It sounds like nothing from this world, as if death itself were speaking. Somewhere else, sickly patients lie in hospital beds in hell. They don’t understand why they are still sick. They listen to the hospital radio, but it doesn’t play their favourite songs. Instead, they listen to the sounds of a life once lived. Drawing inspiration from hospital radio and stories of ghosts heard through analogue technologies, this 3-hour performance by Martin O’Brien explores the human desire to communicate and record. In a strange and eerie landscape, O’Brien shuffles around, recording and playing half-heard voices and unholy sounds. Martin O’Brien is an artist and zombie. He works across performance, writing and video art. His work uses long durational actions, short speculative texts and critical rants, and performance processes in order to explore death and dying, what it means to be born with a life-shortening disease, and the philosophical implications of living longer than expected. Photo: Martin O’Brien, Fading Out of Dead Air (Transmissions for the Necropolis), Whitechapel Gallery, 2023. Photo by Marco Berardi. Please note: this work contains nudity, sexual content, and deals with issues of death.

Save the Date 🎉  A Collective Archive 12–15 June at Ugly Duck, London A Collective Archive is a four-day programme of performance, gathering, conversation, and celebration, marking the final chapter of Ugly Duck as we’ve known it. For over thirteen years, Ugly Duck has existed as an evolving and porous space—a home for experimental practices, shared resistance, and community organising. Programme highlights: Thursday 12 June – Opening soirée with new works and performances by Biogal, Bold Melon Collective supported by Southwark pride artists Friday 13 June – A dedicated performance night featuring Martin O’Brien and more. Saturday 14 June – A full day of activity: archive collage workshop, panel talks, a live radio show broadcast from the space, followed by The Last Dance – a final celebration with Josh Quinton and Tribe Incorporated. Sunday 15 June – A closing gathering with performances by Chloé Filani, Puer Deorum and Joy Kincaid. Confirmed artists: @biogal @blanca_regina @pierrebouvierpatron @1.chloe.f @clayebowler @elodiegatacre @astermunro @feef_la @georgiasemple @hazelnblair @inesmichelotto @jean_cleverley69 @johnleebird @joshquinton @joy.kinkaid @93lmss @martinobrienart @puer_deorum @roughfabrics @svarsimpson — with more to be announced. This project is a celebration of what has been possible and what can be done again. We want to inspire others to carve out space in the cracks of capitalism, to build infrastructures of care, and to continue resisting erasure through art and community. We are immensely proud of the work we’ve accomplished and deeply grateful to the artists, collaborators, funders, and audiences who have made Ugly Duck what it is. While our physical space is transient, the legacy of what we’ve built together will persist—in memories, in friendships, in future projects that are yet to come. Join us as we celebrate the legacy of a space built together— tickets and the full programme available via link in bio! Poster design Alfie Allen - @alfie_allen_ Supported by @aceagrams

This civilisation inhabited present-day Ukraine, Romania and Moldova, creating pottery and anthropomorphic figurines connected to the veneration of land, solar-lunar cycles and goddess-centered spirituality. Mysteriously, they cyclically burned their settlements, leaving behind only sculptures: Burned House Horizon is named after this phenomenon. ❣️Curated by Giulia Casalini @queer___femme & Byuka. 🌙Funded by Arts Council England National Lottery @aceagrams . 🤝 Partners: @mimosahouselondon @queercircle @queerartprojects @performingborders @lgbtiqoutside @unitedqueerdom Photography: @edasan #burnedhousehorizon #queerspirituality #landart #queermigrant #cucutenitrypillia #queerhomelessness #queerhomemaking #queereasterneurope #transnationalfeminism #queermythmaking
