This session is congruent with my ongoing interest in the 1340-50s literary and experimental film circles in Iran. It brings together works from a collaged archive that stitch the mad, the dead, the (un)dying, the in love, the sickly and the teachers in various forms: poem-films, delirious~elliptical writing and docufiction, ‘as if a spirit would write’.
The event improvises between the following and incorporates interpretive translations: P like Pelican (Parviz Kimiavi, 1351), Death of a Story (Nasib Nasibi, 1347), Hassanlou Chalice (Mohammadreza Aslani, 1346), Hills of Qaytariyeh (Parviz Kimiavi, 1347), An Unending Passage (K. Tina, 1340), and happy nightmares (WIP interaction with K. Tina).
death expands to its extremums, madness becomes liberation. the body shouts from 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘯𝘰𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 in particular… what better way to be mad at the death cult that denies it? the extreme presence and the omni absences, the angst of the controversies haunt us. nervous breakdown arrives (of the impossibility or the excess of possibilities) to language; teaching the alphabet is an attempt of one who pleads to be listened to, only to be called back: lunatic.
of the controversies and intensities of ‘this year’, echoed by a choir that insists on saying ‘this year’ just one last time; expanded writing of the 1340s carries the burden of the decay of stories, imagination and affect in mad form. Nasibi’s words linger: ‘i always feel death and i can’t separate myself from it. i also like madness, because it’s been with me… it has lived with me and still does.’

as we think ahead to coming weeks, we share the news of one of our next residents @wpp_writersroom , @qall !
yasamin ghalehnoie, ghalenoii, qalenoii, is undecided by the incongruity of vowels in translation. born in tehran and intermittently based in london, they write, walk, maldigest culture, make prints, perform and teach. they are curious about the connections between nervousness & nerve damage and the under engagement with the distressed angels of history. affected by the inadequacy of words or meaning, or both, they are obsessed with the residual mundanity of madness.
coming out of fifteen days with no internet in iran i fear what I don’t have to say, the horror is well beyond words. i fear what i’m going to see beyond what i’ve already seen. i fear for the deaths we have to remember and the lives we have to attend to. and i didn’t think i’d touch this much snow again in tehran.

Friends, we invite you to our raffle to raise essential funds for people in Iran.
As a fragile ceasefire takes hold, friends and communities in Iran continue to live with the lasting impacts of war. With longstanding inflation placing enormous pressure on households even before the latest escalation of the US-Israeli war of aggression, people are already facing a severe economic crisis and one of the world's longest internet shutdowns. The war has destroyed essential infrastructures - places of education and of work - from factories to hospitals. There is a scarcity of work and medicine, and our sustained support is needed more than ever. These wars aren’t abstract, they carry real human costs often disproportionately falling on the most vulnerable.
All funds raised will be distributed through trusted groups on the ground. They will ensure the distribution of the funds through tested routes built on years of work within different affected communities in Iran.
Join us this May Day for an evening of solidarity filled with poetry, readings and music. And of course, participate in the raffle to take home an artwork, a print or other special prizes.
Contribute what you can - every little bit will help us raise vital funds for those most affected. This includes medicine and medical care, support for displaced and migrant families as well as assistance for families of prisoners.
Stay tuned for more - We will be sharing details about the artworks and other prizes as well as the full evening programme soon!!

if there is to be a ‘condition’ (that is if we disbelieve patient being a pathological lier), the condition is having been conditioned to live an unbreathable life in permanent genocidal times. patient expresses multitude of concerns about the persistence of symptoms and lack of clarity regarding the cause and and half life of the condition.
