Hol’tight everyone who made it to our second edition of ALWAYS Homegrown Cinema. This time around our programme explored Black technological fantasies and expressions, with screenings of Pumzi, Kempinski and Techno City. We hope the prompts and the conversations sparked, inspired everyone to look further, seek their own answers and possibly raise new questions—about the notion of the future and our evolving relationship with technological progress. See you this winter! ALWAYS HC 📼

ALWAYS 02: TECHNOLOGIES OF JOY. SAT 6.09.2025 | TICKETS IN BIO Come and join us for the second edition of ALWAYS: Homegrown Cinema at CKE [Bradbury Works] located in the heart of Dalston.  For the second edition, we return with Technologies of Joy, a certy selection of films exploring Black technological expressions of joy. Rumbling like a bassline from the belly of Detroit, finding a deep pulse like the midnight highways of Durban, skanking off the sweat of a warehouse party that never ends. Some say it’s nostalgia. More time it’s memory activated. Honouring the mythology of Drexciya where the unborn of our ancestral mothers adapted undersea and created a sound of resistance. The film night will be introduced by a specially curated DJ set focused on Black Electronica, African Electronica and Afrofuturist frequencies. Come and bounce to the “oontz oontz’.🎛️

We kicked off with On Motherhood, a special curation of visual material around the theme of mothering followed by the screening of Rosine Mbakam’s The Two Faces of a Bamiliké Woman Despite few hiccups we were very pleased to see a room filled with belonging, care and energy. Thank you to the team who made this possible with commitment, patience and love. See you in September ALWAYS HC 📼
