Part II of “Exploring Cultural Clothing” featuring the “Tsoliá”. A drag reinterpretation by @pythia.queen and IONIQO. Designing it, wearing it, performing it… and bringing it back to my hometown, to the streets I grew up on for a special shoot. This one felt so personal and unique! If only someone could educate you on the cultural significance of this level of cunt. 🇬🇷🏛️🏺🗡️ This look and this shoot felt really special. Drag has opened a deeper connection to my culture, letting me rediscover it and feel closer to it in a way I didn’t expect. And sharing it with all of you is my absolute dream! Getting to shoot in my hometown, around my family, our homes, the landmarks and the streets I grew up on means everything to me. It’s more than just a look. It’s my identity, my connection to my roots. Men used to go to war, now they wear skirts… wait, they kind of always have been! Introducing a new series: “Exploring Cultural Clothing” Clothing is never just clothing. It carries meaning and history. In collaboration with our creative studio @ioniqo.creative , I will be creating a video series of the study of garments throughout different cultures in history, and talking about what they represent and symbolize, and deep diving their meanings. For the very first episode, I’m exploring the Greek national costume, often called the “Tsoliá”. Every element has meaning and every detail was designed with purpose. So let’s break it down together! Throwback to DragCon UK in January because apparently I blinked and it’s MAY?! 😅 👑🏁🇬🇧💄 I got so swept up in life that I never shared these magical moments so here’s a few of them I found floating around my camera roll! CERBERUS 🐾 ΚΕΡΒΕΡΟΣ In the grand tapestry of life, every journey must come to an end. For the finale look, what a fitting way to represent this feeling than the sentinel of the afterlife! As Cerberus stands watch at the gates of the underworld, we’re reminded that every ending is simply a doorway to something new. Let’s embrace the lessons learned and the memories made, knowing that beyond each ending lies the promise of new adventures yet to unfold. 🌌🐕 🐾✨ Costume was based on a design my dear friend @hannah.r.harvester had done for me, but I re-imagined it a little bit and added two extra heads in order to reference my most memorable look from my journey on @canadasdragrace ! I made the whole look with assistance of @hannah.r.harvester who helped me carve and cover the dog mouths around the skirt! This was so fun but also challenging to create, it was a perfect merge of puppetry and costume/fashion which is my favourite place to find myself and my designs and drag! :) We shot this with @samblakesam and assistance from my baby @denimjustdenim at the Mount Royal cemetery last full moon in the middle of the night! It was so spooky and magical and I just love the contrast of such a colourful campy look such as this with the beautiful, eerie setting! I would have killed this! 🥲 This is the one look I could not wait to walk down the main stage in, but alas, it was too powerful to be allowed and they had to send me home before for the sake of the other girls!
