This was my favourite set of this year . Such an honour and privilege to provide the visual backdrop for the legend that is Luke Slater. A techno artist of his calibre turns everyone on to techno. It’s banging but it is funky, weird, bleeping, evolving, squelching, exciting and tight as fuck. I enjoyed every second. My live visuals were made using internal feedback loops on a Panasonic MX30 video mixer with wipes, down stream keying and soft video synth patches and live camera feedback. #Fogfest2 @iklectikartlab . I love this part of @strictlykev and @grahamdunning ‘s set and I think this is one of my favourite video clips of the performance. It was incredible to see and hear two innovators of turntablism, together pushing this art form into completely new realms. It was also the boldest I’ve ever been in feedback performance with so much colour manipulation and 3 feedback loops going into each other. All analogue and I had no video sources just the live pal camcorder on DJFood connected to my mixer. That looked so great to watch and also gave me the space to start a new. I had some clips on an old MacBook and I also had my video synth incase I needed them but I didn’t even connect them. As it turned out I was performing for over 45 minutes as there was a technical problem with the other visualist and there were times when I lost control and scrambled to get back to a visual I wanted. But in that process I also made art that was special and not easy to create in a live environment. With experimental improvised performance it’s all about not being scared to push your limits and sometimes crash beyond them. It is hard to be that out there and not be in tight control of the aesthetic but I am finding the confidence. I’m having at least a week off to give my eyeballs a rest 😂but can’t wait to try out some new ideas. Been having some quiet time, hibernating and resetting. Starting to get the itch though…. I was given a bunch of cmos mini cctv cameras by the very lovely @grahamdunning at our gig at the Imax in November. I have been looking forward to playing with them. I’ve been looking at cmos cctv cameras for a while They are immediate - like terriers! Instant, fast and exciting low res. I slowed them, got some control and passed them through the v4. This weekend marked the grand opening of Church House in Long Ashton, our fantastic new home for Holotronica. We opened our doors at 3pm for the Long Ashton community to come enjoy a mince pie, a glass of mulled wine and see what we do here at Holotronica. They were thrilled by our Hologauze holographic effects, pinball and arcade machines! In the evening we hosted a private party for friends of Holotronica to come and celebrate with us with AV performances from the Holotronica team. Church House is a beautiful, building built in 1908 by the Smyths of Ashton Court for the Long Ashton community. A large three storey building with multiple self contained studios for rent. There is also and a large 15m hall with a stage available to hire.
