mini DC food diary pt. 2 🐷🐷🐷 📍Purple Patch, Mt Pleasant Had a mix of high highs and low lows at this place 😊 My fave was the longsilog rice. The sausage was so luscious, fatty, and garlicky, and paired really well with the bright pickled salad. The pork adobo had so much potential imo. The pork was melting tender and that fried egg was textbook perfection with a super runny yolk. The biggest catch was the garlic rice, which would’ve been amazing, but it got drowned in an overly aggressive, super heavy-handed sweet/sour sauce, dragging down what would've been a 9/10 dish. The lechon kawali was underseasoned and pretty dry. The sauce served only as an aid to prevent choking on the dry meat, it didn't add much flavor. The side papaya salad actually saved the dish from being too dry. The biggest heartbreak was the halo halo💔 It came with zero toppings (no jackfruit, no coconut gel, no beans, pretty much everything that was listed in the menu was absent). This felt like a false advertisment moment for me :( On the bright side, their ube ice cream on top was incredibly smooth, rich, and flavorful 💜🙋🏻‍♀️ Longsilog rice - 9/10 Pork adobo - 8/10 Luchon kawali - 6/10 Halo halo - 🙅‍♀️🙅‍♀️🙅‍♀️ ~$85 total incl tax

ISANG KUSINA MENU DROP 🍽️✊🏽🇵🇭 This menu is a chronological timeline of the Filipino American journey. To bring this to life, our research team collaborated with this year’s chefs representing seven different states: Washington, DC, California, Louisiana, Hawai’i, Alaska, and right here in Nevada. 🧐 Based on the year and the states, could you guess which chef is anchoring which part of our history? Together, they’ve crafted an immersive 8-course dining experience that spans from 1587 to 1920 + beyond. This is an exploration of what it means to be here, to be us, right now. Seats at the Keep Memory Alive Event Center are filling up fast. Don’t miss the flagship culinary event of the year. 🔗 Head to the link in our bio to grab your tickets before they’re gone. “My work as a storyteller started because my father’s own story began to fade. Today is my father’s 79th birthday. He is an engineer, an immigrant, and the reason I became a storyteller. As he navigates the severe stages of dementia, Istorya’s mission has become deeply personal: our team archives the past so it is never forgotten. This year’s Isang Kusina is a dedication to him. We are hosting it at the Keep Memory Alive Event Center on May 22nd. This is how I keep his memory alive. Happy birthday, Dad. I love you.” - @walbertjcastillo , founder of @istoryalv
