A night of memory, music, and sovereignty. 🕯️
This project is deeply personal. As the Haitian-Canadian child and grandchild of farmers, I’ve long carried a longing for the land, for the stories, for the spirit of my grandparents’s lakou. It’s a feeling of home I’ve yearned to recreate tiohtià’ke, this land that has welcomed me and my family.
That’s why I’m bringing LAKOU EN EKZIL to life.
On November 29, I’m transforming @azalp.creatives studio into a space that honours that legacy. An evening of curated spoken word and live music, where we can share stories, break bread, have a drink and feel what it means to build community on our own terms.
This is more than a show to me. It’s an act of love, act of gratitude for my ancestors my community and for all the souls who have made me the creative soul I am today.
And it’s all in support of the @sankofa.cooperative ’ s Land Purchase Fund; Because land sovereignty is something we attain together!
